Historia
Known for her childhood role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on the classic NBC show Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert has spent nearly her entire life in Hollywood. From Dancing with the Stars to a turn in politics, she is always on the lookout for her next project. She just had no idea that her latest one would be completely life changing. When her husband introduces her to the wilds of rural Michigan, Melissa begins to fall back in love with nature. And when work takes them to New York, they find a rustic cottage in the Catskill Mountains to call home.

So incredibly disappointed
Revisado: 08-22-24
I was so excited to listen to this book- I’ve always been a big fan. When she started dropping the f-bomb and other swear words I was shocked. But I quit listening because of all her far left political bias and bashing of anything or anyone conservative. She clearly thinks anyone who is on the other side is far inferior to her. You would think she would realize that a huge part of her fan base are conservatives. I have no problem with her political beliefs, it was the constant bashing that was so hard to listen to. If you’re a liberal, don’t mind a foul mouth and have no problem with someone referring to God as “she”, then this is the book for you.

Literally painful to listen to
Revisado: 04-04-17
What disappointed you about An Open Door?
The sound quality was horrible-sounded like it was done in a closet. The narrator seemed like she had never read a book out loud before, it was really awful. I couldn't get past more than 5 minutes-which is a first for me after listening to over 500 books!
Would you be willing to try another book from Gail Gaymer Martin? Why or why not?
If there was a different narrator, yes.
How could the performance have been better?
better sound quality and an experience narrator

Read the book- audio is impossible to listen to!
Revisado: 11-30-16
Where in the world do they come up with these narrators? Don't they ever listen to them before they give them a book? This is so disappointing - the first book was great and the narrator was absolutely perfect. This is one of the few books, and I've listened to hundreds of them, that I simply could not listen to. I wasn't even able to finish the first chapter and that has never happened before. It was absolutely excruciating. I will read the Kindle version but just cannot tolerate the audio. Truly, truly horrific.

Worst Reader in the history of readers
Revisado: 03-24-16
I honestly can't say much about the story – it was so hard to get around the horrendous narration. It was actually almost physically painful and I can't believe I suffered through the whole book. This poor woman sounds like a very remedial reader struggling through a class project. Her cadence and phrasing is stilted at best. At some points instead of reading a sentence it sounded as if she were reading a list of words. The voices that she tried to do were horrible – and not appropriate to the characters at all. It was truly the most painful, awful listening experience I have ever had. I turned it off and determined not to listen to it anymore at least 20 times, all the while mumbling and rolling my eyes because it was that bad. I think sheer stubbornness made me push through it. Sad to say it only got worse as it went on. She really has absolutely no business reading these books for others to listen to. I'm not trying to be unkind, but it was truly unbelievably horrid.
