Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Wow! What a story!
Revisado: 04-13-20
I have a few books I'm currently reading but I wanted something else to listen to as I worked through a project yesterday. Picked this half heartedly and pretty soon realised I'd made a good choice.
It was gripping. I felt both doubtful and empathetic about many of the characters. I felt sympathy for many of stories and experiences and vested in the outcome. What an outcome it was!

Historia
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

I miss Patroclus and I only finished the book a few hours ago.
Madeline Miller skilfully wielded her ability to take up these ancient tales and breathe life into them with engaging prose, along with characters we can stand beside or against.
Frazer Douglas did an excellent job, bringing voice to a wide range of characters with conviction. He was a delight to listen to.

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

One of my favourite characters!
Revisado: 06-26-18
The only thing that would delight me more about this novel is if Gail Honeyman wrote a sequel.
Eleanor Oliphant was down but not out, odd, likeable and made my heart ache for her. It's not every story where you feel like you want to give a character a hug and lend her a hand. But Honeyman did just that in her debut novel.

From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Fascinating insightful stories
Revisado: 07-28-16
I love the way the author chose to present the story of the great migration as first a narrative and then more specifically as the story of three individual experiences. I learned a lot and have a greater appreciation for movement of African Americans within their borders.
The recording could only be delivered any better if this were a replay of the numerous interviews with the main "characters". Well done!
