After a bad breakup, Nola wants nothing to do with Christmas, especially in her quaint hometown of Bright Harbor, Maine. Infuriatingly charming and cheery, Nola’s surroundings only worsen her sour mood. To make matters worse, Caleb, the boy who broke her heart years ago, is all grown up and still living in town. While doing her best to avoid him, Nola bumps into the local mailman, who gives her a mysterious letter. And when she finds that the writer is a fellow Scrooge, she can’t help but feel her spirit lifting.

Very sweet story of love lost and found again. Small attempt at profanity but artfully handled.

Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound
Revisado: 03-10-21
What an amazing presentation of human frailty and forgiveness. A portrayal of beauty from ashes. This book did not present perfect human being, but flawed people in need of God’s forgiveness and grace. It shows acceptance of people as they are and how the decisions we make can affect generations to come. Well worth the read!

Historia
Nate Beckett has spent his life fighting wildfires instead of the lies and rumors that drove him from his Colorado hometown. His mother begs him to come back now that his father has been released from prison, but it isn’t until he’s sidelined by an injury that he’s forced to return and face his past. But that means facing Brenna, too. Fourteen years ago, Nate was in love with the preacher’s daughter. When Pastor Strickland discovered Brenna defied him to sneak out with Nate, the fight between Strickland and Nate’s drunken dad was loud - and very public.

Predictable
Revisado: 02-23-21
Much more predictable than most of the books she writes, yet still just as enjoyable. Still one of my favorite Christian authors.

Historia
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

Blood is not thicker than selfishness
Revisado: 08-11-20
Great book and insight into one family’s struggle with loyalty. It’s unfortunate that the phrase “I’m sorry is so difficult to say”. I have great admiration for Tyler Schultz and his determination to stick to the values he was taught, even when the one he admires, does not.

Historia
After a political scandal, fledgling lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew is left almost broke, unemployed, and homeless. She reluctantly accepts to refurbish Birdsong, the old family place in Guthrie, Georgia. But, oh, is Dempsey in for a surprise. "Bird Droppings" would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol - pink dump. There's also a murderously grumpy old lady who has claimed squatter's rights and isn't moving out. Ever.

Lots of Profanity
Revisado: 07-28-20
I choose this book because of the storyline but was disappointed with the amount of profanity that is used throughout the book. I would like to say it is only a little, but it is not.
The story was great although you knew how it would turn out. The characters were interesting, especially Ella Mae. I loved the contractor who was a forever optimist.
There are recipes at the end and that is nice.

Great Read
Revisado: 10-11-19
Narration well done. I felt like I was walking with them each step of the way. Wonderful portrayal of how easy it is for us to loose our way when people hurt us. But, great biblical teaching on how God stands with His arms open, ready to receive us no matter what.

Sweet story, but...
Revisado: 10-09-19
I enjoyed the story but I had a difficult time listening to the narrator’s voice. It was a bit too high pitched for my liking. There were moments when I had difficulty understanding what she was saying, especially when she was speaking to herself.
It may be okay for some but I’m not sure I will listen to this narrator again.

More sex than I planned for
Revisado: 06-26-19
While it was a sweet story and very predictable ending, it had too much sex for my taste. That said, it wasn’t a great deal, but I didn’t feel the story needed it.

Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. Among One of Her Best
Revisado: 04-20-19
Francine Rivers always has away of making her characters ones anyone can identify with, and Masterpiece was no exception. In this piece she deals with the effect of childhood scars on us as adults. Each person deals with things differently. But she also deals with waiting on God’s timing and learning what it means to put Him first in spite of running after those things He has promised us. Masterpiece helps you see where God has His hands on our lives even when we don’t realize it. Great book on love, forgiveness, redemption and trusting God with your life.

Looking Glass Lies Could be a Self-Help Book
Revisado: 03-24-19
The book is a bit slow in the beginning, but if you stick with the story, you will gain lots of personal insight into warped self image and some of it’s roots. It also takes us into depression and addiction. Many of the exercises done in the support group could be helpful to many.
The story is real and raw. Many people will be able to identify with the characters, whether young, old, male or female; suffering from addiction, depression or sorrow.
