Mirrors my own story....Gave me tools and Hope
Revisado: 08-17-21
This is a good book with valuable information. Much of what the author has experienced and discovered mirrors my own experience with plantar fasciitis and methods I have implemented to help heal my feet, plus a few I had never considered, but will certainly try.
It was so encouraging to me to hear that the things the author found most helpful (massage, ice, footballs) are some of the things that I have already been implementing the past few weeks. Before this book, I was getting discouraged, because although I have noticed that these things help me I REALLY wasn't sure if it was helping me to heal or just providing temporary relief. This book has filled me with the hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS BOOK. WITHOUT IT, I MAY HAVE GIVEN UP HOPE OF HEALING BEFORE GIVING MYSELF THE TIME NEEDED TO HEAL FULLY.
The author has made what I consider other great suggestions that I am sure to add to my current regime.
Yep, I am doing a happy dance albeit light-footed and gingerly, for now, it's a HAPPY DANCE nonetheless.

When her husband passed away after a long, trying illness, Annie Dodds was forced to sell almost everything to settle his estate. Homeless, with little money, she wondered if it might be time to pursue a decades-old dream of living a quiet, self-sufficient life alone, off-grid. One day, when her son told her he knew of an old house on 50 acres, she knew it was time.

Not What I Expected, I Love it Even More
Revisado: 03-23-20
This story was not what I was expecting. I had envisioned a strong, independent woman who threw in the towel on society and drove off to a remote location to enjoy life in solitude. Annie is a strong and independent woman, who know doubt proved herself very resilient following the death of her husband. It's just her motivation for doing what she did was not spurred by a sense of adventure, but desperation, when her husband died and left her nothing, practically penniless, and needing to sell her trailer to pay of his debt.
However, once she is there, the story really starts to unfold and Annie's personality and determination shines through, along with her sense of humor, which made me choke on my morning coffee more than once.
She somehow turns what most would deem a nightmare situation into a life worth living, and one she enjoys immensely.
I am the same exact age Annie was when she began her life living off grid, and while I am no wimp, and have even longed to live remote myself, Annie's bravado in the face of obstacles and hard luck is just plain inspiring. She is resourceful and did I mention she has a great sense of humor? This book is funny, inspirational, and captivating. I have listened to it 4 times now.
I grew very attached to Annie while sharing in her adventure. I wanted good things for her, I hoped for her, laughed with her, and rooted for her all the way. It was just that I wished that I didn't keep having too!!!! I so wanted a happy ending for this spunky, gutsy, down on her luck gal. I am sure Annie wanted a happy ending too but neither of us got it. Annie got bittersweet memories she will cherish a lifetime, and I got a story I won't soon forget. The story was not what I had hoped. The ending was not what I expected. Yet, I ended up loving it even more.
PS. A review of this audio book would not be complete without giving huge kudos to the narrator. The story was brilliantly narrated by Pam Ward. Her talent brought so much to the story and was believable and enjoyable in every way. It is so rare to find a narrator's performance so spot on! Perfection! Kudos to Pam Ward for her considerable contribution to my enjoyment of this audio book.

The principles are NEW AGE, not Christian
Revisado: 12-22-18
I heard 10 minutes of this before I knew it was not for me and not what I was looking for. I wish it offered Christian solutions, but it is just more of the New Age self-talk so popular today. Very disappointed. Returning this one.

I really wanted to like this, but....
Revisado: 07-23-18
I had high hopes for this book! I was so excited about this book after reading the reviews and listening to the sound byte. Kristi Watts does a GREAT job narrating the book. One of the best narrations EVER!
The problem came with the story itself. I bought the book because I wanted to learn more about using/ speaking God's promises. While I expected that the author may include some things from her own story - I expected it would be liberally interjected with how she utilized scripture, and maybe even some of the promises she claimed. That was not the case.
Three hours into a five-hour audio she is STILL sharing assorted details of her ex-husband, and the effects his lies and eventual abandonment had upon her and their son. At one point she switched gears for a bit, but only to belabor yet another story that did nothing to educate, edify, or entertain me. She met a wonderful counselor who was helpful in expediting her healing by being personally transparent and offering her unconditional love. OK, that is great for Kristi, and I don't begrudge her that, but frankly, that doesn't help me. Uh, where is the part about speaking scripture? Where do I learn how to talk myself happy, Kristi? It's all but non-existent in this book. I suspect that the author did not have a lot of content, practicality, or sound advice to offer and consequently used her own story as "fluff" to pad the book. The problem is I got tired of hearing the details of her pain and struggle - no matter how brilliantly it was narrated. After 3 hours I just could not care anymore about what had happened to her. I wanted to love this book. But in the end, I found that the author didn't offer me anything I couldn't get for free while listening to a divorcee folding clothes beside me in a laundromat.
I bought this book to learn how to "talk myself happy" using scripture and apply it to my own life situation(s).
I am sorry to be so critical of this book, but to be honest, I consider this book a complete failure. A real disappointment.

Prosperity. It's one of the most dividing words in the church. Some pastors use it to tell their congregations that God will make them all rich, rich, rich! Others spurn the word and insist that true Christlikeness is found in forsaking all worldly riches and possessions. The truth is, both are right - and both are wrong. With refreshing honesty, humor, and keen insight, best-selling author and pastor Kris Vallotton mines the Scriptures in an eye-opening study of what the Bible really says about money, poverty, riches, and wealth.

GOOD CONTENT -BAD SOUND...
I am returning this, but may get the book. I was actually really looking forward to this audio book, but the audio is not good. Narrator should learn what a condenser is before attempting future recordings. Unfortunately her performance ruined this one for me.
You can hear every breath, annunciations of p, t and s's along with scratchy background. Poor audio, bad sound quality, amateur narrator. :(
Sorry to be harsh, but I couldn't get through this. It's over 17 hours and the bad audio was too annoying and distracting - after 30 minutes, I gave up.

CHRISTIAN'S BEWARE! Anti-Christ Teaching
Revisado: 12-31-17
I am a Christian, and I will be returning this book. While this book has Jesus in the title, and uses scripture throughout the content, it is NOT Christian in it's teaching. The author focuses on the Love within EVERYONE, and how ANYONE can let their light shine - it is very New Age sounding, and focuses on man's innate love and goodness while making no mention of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Author does not profess the divinity of Jesus Christ, man's sinful nature, mankind's need of a Savior, and the saving, redemptive work of Christ on the cross. Instead it focuses on what WE can do and man's innate goodness and internal, loving nature. NOT! If mankind was basically good Jesus would not have needed to be crucified!!!
The author says that you don't need to be a Christian to follow Christ or Christ's example -implying that Christ is just a great example of what it means to be loving, rather than our Savior and the Son of the living God.
Acts 4:12:
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
This book is both Dangerous and Deceptive.

I learned something very valuable in a silent season, and that is that I shouldn't be trying to build something when I was supposed to be cultivating my spirit. I was supposed to use that season to spend time with God, grow, and rest in him - not step out on faith and try to do something out of his timing. How many of us are making "faith moves" when we are supposed to be resting? You will find yourself tired because you built something that wasn't even for you.

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AUDIBLE PURCHASES!
Revisado: 09-24-17
I had never heard of Heather Lindsey prior to purchasing this audio book. I have been going through a rough time at work with a difficult boss, and it has been VERY stressful. I am the breadwinner in my family. My family relies on me and my income. To make matters worse, this isn't my first time dealing with the same kind of boss, and the last 2 times things ended badly for me. But this job feels different. I feel the LORD gave me this job. I like my job. Liking my boss is harder. Dragging myself out of bed each day to face another day at work is a HUGE struggle. Crying on my way to and from work each day is getting old.
Heather's audio book has been a healing balm for me. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK! Heather's voice is edgy, with a just the right touch of lightness, and humor, yet still deeply comforting. Both her tone and words convey a genuine warmth, understanding and wisdom. As Heather was sharing some of her lived experience I found her honesty, and her vulnerability disarming. It is very easy to make a real heart connection with her. She is real. She is raw. She is human. Heather exemplifies hard won wisdom gained through trials, tears, doubts, and stumbling.
God doesn't deliver us from the darkness, He delivers us IN it.
Uncannily Heather hit upon every despairing thought I have had in my current trial. She compassionately touched upon every nagging fear, and the bad choices I am inclined to repeat. What I love most is she reminds me of who God is (the wonderful, loving Father I forget when I am stressed the heck out!)....no matter how big my troubles may seem, my God is BIGGER. She reminds me that He is fighting for me. He won't abandon me. He hasn't forgotten me. Sigh....This audio was the perfect combo of comfort and wisdom I needed. Having spilled my guts this far, I don't mind sharing now that I wept like a little girl during parts of this audio book. I was so relieved to hear Heather's encouraging words and inspirational, biblical Truths. This book revitalized me and filled me with boldness, confidence and faith.
Yep! I AM going to make it through this!!!! And
I will listen to this audio book dozens of times!!!!
God is going to turn this situation around to work it for my good. If God is for me, who can be against me?
This book is a blessing. I have purchased 100's of audio books in my time, and this 1 is of my all time favorites.
Thank you, Heather.

Almost 60 percent of those in American evangelical churches believe that many religions can lead to eternal life. But if Jesus is to be trusted when he says that no one comes to the Father except through him, the church is failing in its mission. And it's not hard to guess why. An exclusive Jesus just isn't popular in our inclusive world. Dr. Robert Jeffress calls on Christians to recover the exclusive claims of the one they claim as Lord and Savior, not as a way to keep people out of heaven but as the only way to invite them in.

Intelligent, Convicting & Enjoyable
Revisado: 02-06-17
I enjoyed this book of much more than I thought I would. The author has a great way of rationally & intelligently speaking to and about a heated topic that often causes unbelievers to feel offended, and believers to try and detour the matter gracefully. There is no graceul way. There is no way to sugar coat a fact that folks don't want to hear. There is no shades of gray with God for He is the Truth, and He is Absolute, not subjective.
Jesus said, point blank, "No man cometh unto the Father except through me", it is amazing to me that so many will deny, and dodge and this Truth. EVERY other religion other than Christianity is a denial of the one true God, and Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven.
This book deepened my faith and my christian convictions, but it probably won't be well received by those who just do NOT want to accept the bible as the Word of God.
Odd, we get that our landlord makes the rules and we need to follow them or be evicted. We understand that our boss makes the rules and we need to follow them or be fired, but when it comes to GOD, many still believe they can do whatever they want, follow the religion of their choice, make their own rules, and they expect God should just love them and there should be no consequences for the rebellion.
And they will take their misguided beliefs and lies to hell with them unless they repent. I pray this audiobook opens eyes of those who are yet still blind to the Truth.
