Historia
If there is one belief that has united the left and the right, psychologists and philosophers, ancient thinkers and modern ones, it is the tacit assumption that humans are bad. It's a notion that drives newspaper headlines and guides the laws that shape our lives. From Machiavelli to Hobbes, Freud to Pinker, the roots of this belief have sunk deep into Western thought. Human beings, we're taught, are by nature selfish and governed primarily by self-interest.

Strawman
Revisado: 01-19-24
I only got part way through the book. There were too many instances of misrepresentations of other points of view. For instance it seems like the author either misremembers Richard Dawkins Selfish Gene or has never read it. I really wanted to like this book, and I genuinely believe in its central thesis, but if it's going to be taken seriously, then the book should talk about when others have actually said rather than a made up argument

Low vocal tone ruins excellent scholarship.
Revisado: 04-24-22
I could barely understand what the author/professor was saying at any given moment because his voice was so low. Even pumping up the volume didn't help much. It was a shame because the stories and history of the Norse myths was fascinating deep.

Historia
This course addresses some of the eternal questions that man has grappled with since the beginning of time. What is good? What is bad? Why is justice important? Why is it better to be good and just than it is to be bad and unjust? Most human beings have the faculty to discern between right and wrong, good and bad behavior, and to make judgments over what is just and what is unjust. But why are ethics important to us?

Surprisingly Good
- De J. Maxwell en 11-02-09
Extremely biased towards faith based morality.
Revisado: 09-23-21
Kreeft states that he intends to provide a balanced history of the great conversation of moral thought. If that was his goal, he failed. He spends most of his time describing ideas he seems to agree with and much less time on ethics based on reason rather than faith. He makes frequent asides attacking what he claims are "the extreme right and left" but focuses all his actual comments on tearing down the left. Even on the faith side he virtually ignores Eastern Thought all together. He repeatedly asserts that Jesus is the most influential man to ever live, but says nothing of the Buddha or Confucius both of whom predate Jesus, have had followers for even longer and had much to say that relates to Ethics. That combined with his insistence at random points that celibacy is a unalloyed good with no philosophical defense of that position make his agenda clear. I could accept if his focus was inclusive of other voices, but it is very much not. Instead he has stopped just short of stating that Christian Morality is the one true answer.
He does provide an adequate overview of the history of western moral philosophy, though with an odd emphasis on the deity of Socrates that he seems to be tiring to link to the Judeo-Christian God without actually taking the last step to put words into the Ancient's mouths.
Extremely disappointed in this audiobook. I would return it if I hadn't gotten it in a sale.

For the larger-than-life personalities now staking their fortunes on the development of rocket ships, the new race to explore space could be a dead end, a lucrative opportunity - or the key to humanity's salvation. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos take center stage in this fast-paced narrative as they attempt to disrupt the space economy, feed their own egos, and maybe even save the world.

Mispronounced some critical words.
Revisado: 07-22-21
The reader routinely mispronounced the words NASA, soyuz, and interceptor. It was very distracting and took me out of the book every time it happened. The subject matter is extremely interesting and well handled in the text. It was just let down by the reader.

Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

I finished this riveting book in one sitting. Normally I split up my audio books across several sessions. While I can't say I didn't pause it I don't think I left it off for more than five minutes at a time.

The narrator elevated this fun trashy novel. He did struggle with Asian accents which is unfortunate for a novel set mostly in Tokyo.

The subject matter is fascinating and the story is compelling. The only problem was how slow the author talked. Fortunately it's easy to speed things up in audible.

A fun little bit of wish fulfilment
Revisado: 08-06-18
Tamer King of Dinosaurs is the kind of fun adventure that the old Conan books delivered so well. Pure male wish fulfilment. Beautiful women surround the hero in a dangerous environment. Our beleaguered animal control officer quickly finds himself in charge and planning to build a new home for himself and his harem.
As long as the reader keeps what this book is, it’s a perfectly entertaining little jaunt.

The book and the reader are both quite good. The problem is the atrocious audio quality. It often sounded like it was copied from a bootleg casset tape from 1983.

Historia
Maverick thinker Nassim Nicholas Taleb had an illustrious career on Wall Street before turning his focus to his black swan theory. Not all swans are white, and not all events, no matter what the experts think, are predictable. Taleb shows that black swans, like 9/11, cannot be foreseen and have an immeasurable impact on the world.

The ideas in this book are great. The author seems to be an ass. His holier than thou approach to philosophy made it difficult for me to finish the book.
