My favorite of the entire series to date!
Revisado: 09-19-24
I have listened to the Spellmonger series three times, taking it up just before a new book is released. Each time, I hear parts I had either forgotten or missed previously (it is many hours of listening!).
In this case, I missed the whole origins of the Casari, which made me giggle for its absolute cleverness! Terry Mancour is a genius and John Lee is amazing for the number of characters that he can bring to life!
As a teacher who works with foster youths, this book had a special place in my heart for its importance of literacy and care of children. Oh, if all of us could consider all children as precious as the Casari do!

Historia
The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma. Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm? We may find out in this novel. We may not. Who can say?

Cannot get through the narration...
Revisado: 12-18-20
I have to agree with many of the other reviews. Adjoe Andoh's narration is not just unpleasant, it hurts. After listening to 20 books narrated by Lisette Lecat, this one proved too awful to continue. Andoh really should have made the narration her own and not have tried to copy Lecat's voice for the characters. Her reading voice was very pleasant, and she should have used it for Mma Ramotswe, but instead, she made her sound like a man when she dropped her voice to portray her.
She seemed to only be able to produce two voice variations other than her normal reading voice - the one for Mma Ramotswe and a voice that has a strong screech that she used for all other characters. I tried so hard to finish the book, but the high-pitched...there is no other word for it than screech...voice she used for Mma Makutse just got worse when she increased the shrill for Charlie and Mma Polokwane..I could not tell the difference between them, so I just stopped listening.
I will finish the book, but I will have to read it because I just can't listen to any more narration.

Clear deviation from her usual prose
Revisado: 01-23-17
I have enjoyed reading all of Seanan McGuire'a stories, and always look forward to any new ones that are released, whether they are part of her October Daye, Incryptid, or Indexing series, or her short stories. This was very much a deviation from her usual writing. There was an awful lot of philosophical offerings that, in many ways, took away from her storytelling. It wasn't that this was a bad story, just unusual, and not in keeping with the rest of her writing. I think I would just rather see her put her time in continuing with stories that have become so enjoyable to read.
