Historia
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

Epic Worldbuilding
Revisado: 02-02-25
The clear jewel of the first book is the environment within which the story is told. The characters are engaging and you find yourself invested after only a moderate period. There are few good twists that really made me appreciate their setup. I did feel that the storytelling was a little lacking in sophistication, as in, salvation always appears at the last moment, but I have confidence the writer will continue to grow in later books, which I am excited to get into.
I found the audiobook performance satisfying, almost providing a poetic feel to the wok through pacing and rhythm. The care taken in the Northern pronunciations feels reverent and magical, which I appreciated.

Historia
Forty years after the God Wars, Dresediel Lex bears the scars of liberation - especially in the Skittersill, a poor district still bound by the fallen gods' decaying edicts. As long as the gods' wards last, they strangle development; when they fail, demons will be loosed upon the city. The King in Red hires Elayne Kevarian of the Craft firm Kelethres, Albrecht, and Ao to fix the wards, but the Skittersill's people have their own ideas. A protest rises against Elayne's work, led by Temoc, a warrior-priest turned community organizer....

Deep and Rich

I have enjoyed the series but this, the 4th installment, was a particularly lush vignette for the "old religions" with a real feeling of reverence and authenticity for the character's religions.
