Historia
The abandoned house at the end of Millhaven Road stands on blighted and barren ground, as if nature itself shuns this tainted place. It is known simply as Dead End House, and unspeakably terrible things happened there long ago.

Basically like a Rob Zombie movie on steroids (not in a good way)
Revisado: 01-25-25
The majority of this book is descriptions of extreme torture and misogyny. There was potential for a decent plot, but this is just pure torture descriptions. This book could never be made a movie as is because it is more extreme than a Rob Zombie movie. I almost quit listening with just an hour left because of the necrophilia with an old corpse. The narrator was awesome, there was no real plot. If the needless torture scenes were cut this would be a two hour listen.

Historia
Six strangers arrive at the home of preeminent puzzle master Alexei Vasiliev for the reading of his will. Among them are the deceased's widow, who'd already begun divorce proceedings, a virologist troubled by actions in his past, and a convicted murderer on day release. The potential beneficiaries will split Vasiliev's $150M fortune if they participate in his last great work. The choice is simple: leave the house with nothing or continue in the hope of solving the six interconnecting escape rooms within this house.

Historia
The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Not as good as many of the reviews
Revisado: 01-19-25
This is a decent story line. Not really worth all of the hype many reviewers give it. It is nice to have a series of stories with the same people in completely different scenarios to see how they interact. The narrator is annoying for many of the characters he does. For example, the two teens at the very beginning were made to sound extremely annoying and unlikeable. I almost quit listening. I hung in and got used to it. He also made many other characters sound condescendingly annoyed to the point that it was irritating to listen to it. Overall, the narrator did a decent job given that he had a lot of range in his voice and I could easily tell which character was speaking. That is better than being monotone.
Only two of these stories count as being in the apocalypse genre. The apocalypse genre requires a global catastrophe (or at least an extremely large one) with societal collapse as the basis of the plot. Three of these books are localized natural disasters that cover a very small area and will be quickly recovered from after the event ends. A wildfire, flood, or hurricane does NOT qualify as an apocalypse.

Historia
Considered by the author to be his finest work yet, this is a novel of realistic detail, heartfelt emotion, and dazzling imagination that builds a world listeners won't want to leave and spins a tale they won't want to end. In a town of amazing magicks, where the real and the imagined live side by side and the Faerie of legend know the automatons of the future, Time sees all - but even he cannot escape the prophecy of James Hart's return, which can only mean the death of Shadows Fall.

Narrator ruined entire story
Revisado: 12-21-24
I loved everything else by Green. The narrator was monotone with very little ability to narrate different characters. I got 10 hours into it and gave up from boredom. It might be a great story, but if this was the first by Green I read I would never had read another. Plus, Choosing an American speaker with a southern accent is a ridiculous choice for a tale so intimately connected to the Nightside in London.

The Scarlet Gospels takes listeners back many years to the early days of two of Barker's most iconic characters in a battle of good and evil as old as time: The long-beleaguered detective Harry D'Amour, investigator of all supernatural, magical, and malevolent crimes, faces off against his formidable and intensely evil rival, Pinhead, the priest of hell. Barker devotees have been waiting for The Scarlet Gospels with baited breath for years, and it's everything they've begged for and more.

Boring story with monotone narrator
Revisado: 05-12-20
This might have been a great story with a narrator with a wider range of speaking. I couldn’t tell who was speaking because they all sounded the same. At first the speaker was enjoyable, but it got old fast. I stuck it out, but it never improved. I kept zoning out from boredom. I am surprised there are so many good reviews.

Great story with decent narrator.
Revisado: 04-26-20
I think most people have a negative review because the storytelling and the narrator is noticeably different. I really like Wymann as a narrator and would listen to anything he narrated. Most people hate this one because the narrator sounds whiny. I personally thought Julie sound extremely whiny when Wymann narrated, and I enjoyed the new female narrator. There is nothing wrong with her accent. I am from Alabama and can say that NO, not everyone from the south sounds like a southern belle on a plantation, or a hillbilly. There are many people living in Alabama that have no accent. The Julie in this story behaves exactly like the previous ones, the only difference is Julie takes up 100% of the storyline instead of a side character with a just a supporting role (people are forced to pay attention to her the entire time).
If you are okay with a slightly different storytelling style and a female narrator then you will most likely enjoy this book. Just go into it as a good side story that focuses on a female protagonist. I do agree that this story is too different to be considered as a main plot.

Good stories, but I personally did not like it.
Revisado: 03-29-20
The narrator was awesome. I personally did not care for the stories. Short stories are not usually able to make you feel like you know or relate to the people. There wasn’t enough action or suspense to make up for that. The stories were good enough for one listen. I will never re-listen to it or buy any of the other collections. I think there would be a lot of people who like this book, it just is not for me.
I do plan on seeing what other books the narrator did, I probably would have stopped listening half way through if not for him.

Tried because of good reviews
Revisado: 07-02-19
I found this story and narration extremely boring. I couldn’t pay attention. I kept at it until the last two hours. The narration/story was meant to create dread/tension but never succeeded. It is hard to build tension with bland speaking and avoiding any action. The tension never progressed to anything interesting.
