The Epitome of a Sistah-Friendship
Revisado: 08-07-18
I simply loved the book! This was my first time listening to this Dynamic Author Duo and they were AMAZING. They captured the essence of a true friendship among women. I loved the details, the nuances, and the intimacies interwoven into their relationships with each other, as well as the other characters. The writing was so detailed the reader could utilize other senses throughout the book as it came to life. I laughed out loud, shed tears, shared disappointments and relished in their unconditional LOVE for each other.
The strength and longevity of their friendship was refreshing, encouraging and let the reader know that it stood the test of time.I can't wait to read the other books.
Enjoy!

Awesome book. Raw, Real, and Authentic
Revisado: 04-22-18
I loved how vulnerable Gabriel was in this book. It was Raw. It was very real and it was her Authentic self. My daughter went to boarding school and was often the only African American or among a small percentage of African Americans. It was interesting to listen to that perspective. I, too, found myself in situations where I was the only one among a small number of African Americans and/or people of color. She depicted the experiences very accurately. It's a wonderful read and I have to say I have a greater appreciation for Gabriel the woman, as the Author, the Actor, the activists and humanitarian.

An historical narrative of OUR Civil Rights j
Revisado: 04-01-16
In addition to a remarkable story and narration, is the intimate struggle of African Americans. Interwoven in each of the characters is the authentic experiences felt by young and old. It is so honestly written that the listener is transported to such historical moments that provided the foundation for benefits, often taken for granted. This entire series should be a requirement for our youth to remind them of the tremendous sacrifices and struggles we overcame, and a blueprint on how to approach the struggles ahead.

Historia
The case starts out close to home: Daniel Kirkland never arrived at Yale for the spring semester. Daniel's mother Grace, a friend of Smokey Dalton's and his son Jimmy's beloved teacher, sacrificed everything to get Daniel into one of the country’s most prestigious schools. What at first seems like a missing persons case becomes something bigger, as Smokey delves into the heart of the anti-war movement. Gradually he realizes that he has stumbled into America’s second war of the decade: the war at home.
