Liked this more than I thought I would
Revisado: 01-05-25
Phillipa Soo did a great job as narrator. The story was good but dragged at points. There was fantastic character growth and the reasoning for each character made sense.
spoilers...
I didn't like that her work really saw no repercussions for their blantant racism. I get that's realistic but if they are going to have Starloon take down their company, hers needed more of that as well. She had a worldwide platform at the end and she could have addressed it. I love that Hannah supported her and that Phoebe and her worked out their issues.

It was a decent play
Revisado: 01-03-25
This was good, but because it's been redone so many times the story is really predictable. I did love the play aspect of this retelling.

Historia
Quinn Norton is starting over at a new high school and hopes that joining a D&D game will be the trick to making friends. The plan sounds even better when she’s invited into a group that includes Logan Weber, the cute and charming guy she met on her first day of class. But this isn’t your average D&D campaign—this group livestreams their games and enforces strict rules: no phones allowed, and no dating other group members.

This Book is a Nat 20
Revisado: 01-02-25
I started this year with a new book that dropped on Dec 31st. I started it yesterday afternoon and finished it today. It was such a fun read! Kristy Boyce also wrote my favorite book of 2024, Dungeons and Drama.
Spoiler free review: This book is from the POV of a junior in High School who had just moved into the area for her family to help her grandmother. She had been dealing with a toxic friend group from her previous High School and was very nervous and shell-shocked while trying to establish friends at her new school.
This book had more D&D than her previous book and the group dynamics were well written. The book is a YA Rom Com and it does follow the Rom Com plot of will they, won't they. It also does a great job of playing up the fact that every single student wants to be an influencer! 😂
My favorite character was her friend Kashvi, followed by her grandma. Both who deserve their own story! Highly recommend!

This book was fantastic
Revisado: 12-28-24
I loved every character, felt all their motivations, and even loved the Rom Com troupe plot. As a D&D player I could picture every single character perfectly. As a musical nerd I completely caught every reference and was able to picture every single character in the story perfectly. Hell, even the Dad and his friends were perfectly done. I teared up at parts and even laughed out loud several times as it brought out memories of when I used to play and be in theater. I'm honestly looking forward to get next book coming out next week.

Sapphic Vampire Romance
Revisado: 12-26-24
I had asked for a dark sapphic romance and this book was recommended. I absolutely loved the word play throughout the book. I loved that spark and connection between the characters and I really enjoyed the character development. The story was a bit predictable but it made up for it with witty banter, delectable descriptions, and a story that was relatable.

Let's Play Ball
Revisado: 12-25-24
I'm a native San Diegan and this book hurt my soul. The FMC felt like she was written by a San Diego tourist, when the character was meant to be from here.
I personally love to travel and small towns are my absolute favorite because of how big San Diego is. The character did nothing but bash Kentucky, bash small town life, bash religion, and not once did she complain about the lack of Mexican food which would have made actual sense.
This was advertised as Sapphic Romance working at a baseball field but it was so peachy it hurt. This was a political book guised as a romance. It came with every stereotype of conservatives. Which is ironic because San Diego is a military town where conservatives and democrats work well together to accomplish their goals. There was hate for interracial couples, hate for LGBTQIA, discussion of Trump, hate for churches, and discussion of Matthew Shepherd.
The author wanted to tell a story about hate not being stronger than love and community. She got her story avoid but I felt that a Sapphic Romance plot wasn't the best setting for the story.

This was a very cute book
Revisado: 12-24-24
I thought this was one of the best "ice queen" books I've read. The character was likeable and relatable which is really unheard of when that character type is written.
The plot was a bit predictable but the character development felt real and made sense. My only dislike was the point the author made to be inclusive and then not spend the time to develop it. There was also plot points that were introduced just to never have a single effect. It also used several teacher troupes that aren't that common as a teacher but seem to be in every teacher based story.

Historia
After the death of her grandmother, reluctant heiress Madilyn Marak agrees to stay with her grandfather at the estate for the summer. There, she finds an old diary hidden in an antique desk in the attic—The Apple Diary—written by her great-grandmother Isabel. In there, she finds the love story of Isabel and Lorah, along with a photograph of the two young women from 1933. The diary, like the love affair, was short and brief, but rich and vivid enough for her to feel a true bond with the women despite the heartbreaking ending.

Revisado: 12-21-24
This book was so well written. It was 3 love stories within one book and all the characters were developed so well that I felt like I knew them. I was only a bit sad that we didn't get more and I was sad when the book ended.
