Historia
If the broken neon signs, shuttered storefronts, and sub-standard housing didn’t tip you off, you’ve just wandered into the city of “Undisclosed”. You don’t want to be caught dead here, because odds are you just might find yourself rising from the grave. That hasn’t stopped tourists from visiting to check out the unusual phenomena that hangs around our town like radioactive fallout. Interdimensional parasites feeding on human hosts, paranormal cults worshipping demonic entities, vengeful teenage sorcerers, we’ve got it all.

Revisado: 02-12-25
This is way better monster hunting than the X-Files. Things actually get resolved. More wonky than Supernatural. More stoner fun.

Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe. Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece.

Revisado: 02-15-24
I liked the first Bob because it was a fun twist on nerd culture. I didn't expect much from the sequel, and imwas surprised. The author has grown as a writer and this book shows much quality character development.

Things start pretty quick and don't let up. The premise seems unique, no spoilers. The love story was meh.

Historia
Chaucer wrote about everyday people outside the walls of the English court-men and women who spent days at the pedal of a loom, or maintaining the ledgers of an estate, or on the high seas. In Chaucer's People, Liza Picard transforms The Canterbury Tales into a masterful guide for a gloriously detailed tour of medieval England, from the mills and farms of a manor house to the lending houses and Inns of Court in London. In Chaucer's People, we meet, again, the motley crew of pilgrims on the road to Canterbury.

Unexpected content

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but not a continuous entertaining stream of medieval anecdotes. Chaucer's characters and everything around them are described.

Historia
More than 2,000 years ago, the Greek city-states, led by Athens and Sparta, laid the foundation for much of modern science, the arts, politics, and law. But the influence of the Greeks did not end with the rise and fall of this classical civilization. As historian Roderick Beaton illustrates, over three millennia Greek speakers produced a series of civilizations that were rooted in southeastern Europe but again and again ranged widely across the globe.

Great to focus on one region and people.
Revisado: 01-12-23
I'm a layman and no scholar, so your perception may vary. I felt this book was one of the best histories I've read because it didn't have any artificial boundaries, i.e the Persian empire or the Crusades. Just because the Persian empire fell didn't mean that Asia didn't have a huge impact on the Aegean afterward. This book keeps the story going forward all the way to the present.

Top notch Sci Fi action.
Revisado: 10-30-22
There are problems with the series, i.e. some characters are way over powered, like troopers knowing more about engineering than engineers, more about forensics than cops. But the space and ground action is top notch. And the story is pretty awesome.

Very glad I listened to this course as it gave me a new perspective. For example, the movie "300" has united Greeks fighting the Persians, but it turns out that the Spartans took Persian money during their war with Athens. Persian women had more rights than Athenian women, etc.
