Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Worst book I’ve read in a long time
Revisado: 02-23-25
The protagonist has a great life, but in an effort to be interesting (or because she’s bored) she complicates it with bad decisions.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 04-19-16
Thank you, Dr. Enns. Everything you have said in this book needed to be said.
Sincere, heartfelt sharing done in a way that made me laugh out loud more than once
I'm usually disappointed when an author chooses not to narrate their own audiobook. This book is the rare exception. The narrator conveyed to the words to me in a way that deepened their impact.

I chose this but book because my daughter was assigned the young reader version at school. I'm so thankful for Malala's courage. I learned more about the Taliban and the conflict in Pakistan from this book than I expected.

Historia
Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel Held Evans didn't want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the gargantuan building budgets, the scandals - church culture seemed so far removed from Jesus. Yet despite her cynicism and misgivings, something kept drawing her back. And so she set out on a journey to understand the Church and to find her place in it.

Her best yet
Revisado: 05-29-15
I think this is RHE's best book so far. She's honest and humble. The humility was a pleasant surprise! I love how she uses the sacraments to make her own journey. Beautifully written and ruggedly honest account of her church journey so far. I sense she's just beginning to see that her church journey and her spiritual journey are two related, but different, things.

Historia
Can the Bible be approached both as sacred scripture and as a historical and literary text? For many people, it must be one or the other. How can we read the Bible both ways? The Bible and the Believer brings together three distinguished biblical scholars--one Jewish, one Catholic, and one Protestant--to illustrate how to read the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament critically and religiously.

Revisado: 01-27-15
Loved learning three perspectives on how to read the Old Testament. Unfortunately the narration is not done well. The narrator sounds as if he's holding his breath with each sentence. He speaks in the higher register of his voice which leaves the listener perpetually waiting for the question to end. I would recommend reading this book rather than listening to it.

Historia
Once thought to have been written by Paul, Hebrews is in fact written by one of Paul’s inner circle prior to A.D. 70, but no one knows exactly who. Addressed to Jewish Christians, our author examines several key issues from a Jewish perspective, drawing heavily upon the Torah for his support. In the marvelous chapters 7-10, our author sees Christ foreshadowed in the Tabernacle; the five great sacrifices of Leviticus; the priest Melchezedek from Genesis 14; and the Law itself. All, our author argues, are merely copies or shadows of the good things that were to come.

Dr. Creasy is an unparalleled Teacher. He is engaging and knowledgeable. He explains how we know Paul is not the author of Hebrews and how we know the general timing of the book. He connects Hebrews back to Genesis and forward to Revelation. Highly excellent teaching!

Historia
Parakeets make delightful pets. We cage them or clip their wings to keep them where we want them. Scot McKnight contends that many, conservatives and liberals alike, attempt the same thing with the Bible. We all try to tame it.McKnight's The Blue Parakeet has emerged at the perfect time to cool the flames of a world on fire with contention and controversy. It calls Christians to a way to read the Bible that leads beyond old debates and denominational battles. It calls Christians to stop taming the Bible and to let it speak anew for a new generation.

This book challenged me to think in new ways about how to read the Bible. I've spent time studying the overall story of the Bible, but Professor McKnight's description of Wiki-Stories adds a new layer to that analysis/understanding.

Historia
Although Romans is not the earliest of Paul’s writings, like Isaiah and Matthew, Romans sits at the head of the epistles and letters. Written as a formal argument and structured as a scholastic diatribe, Romans presents Paul’s great thesis that we are saved by grace through faith, not by works of Law. This is revolutionary! Romans, perhaps more than any other book ever written, has fundamentally changed Western civilization, and it is foundational to understanding all of Paul’s other epistles and letters.

Revisado: 01-15-15
I've listened to hours and hours of Dr. Creasy's teachings. His depth of knowledge and his academic approach have re-engaged me with the Bible. This "book" on Romans explains the literary structure of the book and gives a detailed explanation of Paul's thesis. Also addresses pre-destination, alleged misogyny, and grace v works.

Historia
When history professor Alison Carter became a consultant to the film version of the Wild West legend she’d dedicated her career to researching, she couldn’t possibly have known that she would not only get a front-row seat to a full-blown Hollywood circus but would innocently witness something that would put her life in peril. Nor did she expect that a tall stranger in a cowboy hat would turn the movie — and her world — completely upside down.

Lisp-y

The story is great, but just a heads up that the narrator has a lisp. At first I thought it was an adaptation for a specific character, but the more I listened the more apparent it became.
