Historia
For Stella, deputy editor of The Globe, the choice has always been clear. It doesn’t matter how low she has to stoop—getting the best story is what she’s built her reputation on. For Jess, The Globe’s rookie reporter, the story stops when the truth does. But she knows that the dirty tricks of the tabloids will be hard to overturn. And when a celebrity is hounded by The Globe and pays the ultimate price, Jess wonders just how much Stella and the paper are responsible.

Insufferable
Revisado: 09-16-23
I typically enjoy this author but this book was a huge letdown. It started off okay but the “good” character was a nightmare. She is supposed to have high morals but she’s self righteous and completely off base. Hard pass.

I thought it would be interesting as I recently heard the real deuxmoi on a podcast but the story never went anywhere interesting. I couldn’t finish it and had to return it. I felt bad but I just couldn’t finish this one.

This is definitely worth a listen/read. The very end was disappointing because I knew where the story was headed from the beginning but it was a realistic ending.

Historia
Liv Reese wakes up in the back of a taxi with no idea where she is or how she got there. When she’s dropped off at the door of her brownstone, a stranger answers—a stranger who claims to live in her apartment. She reaches for her phone to call for help, only to discover it’s missing. In its place is a bloodstained knife. Her hands are covered in scribbled messages, like graffiti on her skin: STAY AWAKE. Two years ago, Liv was thriving as a successful writer for a trendy magazine. Now, she’s lost and disoriented in a New York City that looks nothing like what she remembers.

Entertaining but good not great
Revisado: 10-10-22
I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it. The narrator did pronounce some words oddly and did choose strange places to annunciate but it didn’t annoy me. My main complaints were 1) the author didn’t show the reader who the main character was in flashbacks (unless she was supposed to be just kind of bland) and 2) there were some plot device loose ends that weren’t tied up.

Two women. Many aliases. Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She's a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything.

Stellar
Revisado: 07-13-22
I love domestic thrillers but have a knack for identifying “twists” early. It’s disappointing because books my family and friends love, seem predictable to me for whatever reason. The way this story was told, alternating two timelines seamlessly, kept me engaged and guessing which I’m always wanting in a mystery/thriller. Sometimes you only care about one of the timelines in a novel. In this case I was as invested as much in the past as present. Recommend if you like a solid mystery. There was only one plot hole for me which is an opinion so not necessarily a true plot hole.

Growing up in small-town Ohio isn't easy, particularly when you're a closeted gay kid surrounded by...no one openly gay. Luckily, Danny Pellegrino grew up in the '90s, coming of age when the internet opened up a whole new world for a curious kid itching for life outside of Midwest suburbia.

I’m so happy I preordered this book!
Revisado: 03-09-22
If you listen to Danny’s podcast, you are already familiar with his intellect, humor and compassion and understand why people hire him to write for them. If you don’t listen, A) you need to start and B) you will still enjoy this book. My only criticism (which really isn’t intended to be a negative one) would be that some of the stories I have heard before. I’m a longtime listener and fan so take that with a grain of salt. That being said, I was happy to hear them again because Danny is such a compelling storyteller.

Distracting Word Choices
Revisado: 02-16-22
The story and format were compelling. The theme of the book was and important topic. Unfortunately I was often distracted by word choices. The author must not live in the United States because the words and phrases she used often felt out of place for a story set in North Carolina (physiotherapist, jelly and peanut butter, jetty etc.). I kept questioning if the story was set elsewhere. Of note, there were some descriptions of assault which could be triggering.

Historia
Bestselling mystery writer Lucy Harper's talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring readers. It has also saddled her with dependents, namely her fawning husband Dan. When Dan suddenly goes missing, his disappearance evokes dark memories that take Lucy back more than thirty years—to the day her brother vanished without a trace. That's when Lucy began conjuring stories. The police investigation revealed few confirmed details, so she created tales to fill in the gaps, to explain what happened that day her brother disappeared—and Lucy was the only witness.

This one fell flat for me. The story wasn’t very clever and the main character had zero personality so it was hard to care about her.
