Historia
In the futuristic city of Tabula Ra$a, Zoey Ashe is like a fish so far out of water that it has achieved orbit. After inheriting a criminal empire, the 23-year-old finds herself under threat from all sides as a rogue's gallery of larger-than-life enemies think they smell weakness. On the eve of the world's most ridiculous Halloween celebration, a steamer trunk-sized box arrives at Zoey's door, and she is shocked to find that it contains a disemboweled corpse. She's even more shocked when that corpse, controlled by an unknown party, rises and goes on a rampage through the house.

Better than the first
Revisado: 02-17-24
I wasn’t a fan of the first Zoe novel, but since I really like Pargin/Wong I gave this a go. Much better than the prequel, and some really good action sequences.

Historia
America is Gone. It’s 2003 and American forces are assembled in Kuwait for the invasion of Iraq. In Paris an assassin wakes from a coma, in the Cascades a lone hiker watches a plane fly into a mountain and just north of the Equator a modern-day pirate, a rogue-Tasmanian, is witness to the unspeakable. In one instant an inexplicable wave of energy has changed the world. From Canberra to Cairo things will never be the same.

John Birmingham gets it right again

But god the reader is dull and soulless (I hope he doesn’t read reviews!).
It’s another well paced adventure, but I’d suggest in this case to just buy the paperback.

Historia
One Summer: America, 1927, is the new book by Britain’s favourite writer of narrative nonfiction, Bill Bryson. Narrated by the man himself, One Summer takes you to the summer when America came of age, took centre stage, and changed the world forever. In the summer of 1927, America had a booming stock market, a president who worked just four hours a day, a semi-crazed sculptor with a plan to carve four giant heads into a mountain called Rushmore, a devastating flood of the Mississippi, a sensational murder trial, and a youthful aviator named Charles Lindbergh who started the summer wholly unknown, and finished it as the most famous man on Earth.

Excellent as always

Another great book written and read by the masterful author himself. An exquisite and heartfelt exploration of the Summer of 1927, brought to us in his usual detail and joy.
