Vile characters

It was a very difficult story to get through. The characters (except Denise) were hateful, horrible people. I had to listen at double speed just to finish the book. The only redeeming part of the experience was that I knew it was only story and I would NEVER HAVE HEAR FROM THIS ODIOUS CREW again.

STORY: This is an entertaining series with decent development of cozy characters and imagery. i am intrigued enough to continue.
NARRATOR: OMG. The “British” accent was sooooo bad. And “JIM-iminez.” C’mon. Seriously?
In an audio book, these are important things that take you out of the reverie of the story.

In general, NO THANKS. This series has some fun, escapist plots; it's quite suited to the Cozy Mystery genre. The problem for me is the main character's voice and general depiction. The enjoyment of the mystery was repeatedly interrupted with vernacular and sense of self supposedly experienced by a 30-year old female in the 21st century that screams this was written by someone MUCH older and out of touch with the generation depicted. I feel like my former-English-professor grandma was the voice of the antagonist. It was irritating and ruined suspension of disbelief.

Bad audio nearly ruined this

I enjoyed the book and the clever plot. Character development was good. The audio was so annoying. Sounded like I was listening through a tin can.

I was repeatedly disappointed in the characters. They were annoying, childish, failed to redeem or grow in their arcs. I don’t plan on spending any more time with them.

i wanted to like it...

Flat characters, awkward prose, poor grammar, and lack of imagery. This book reads like a first draft by a student. On top of that, the reader was awful.
