Historia
The killer's methods are terrifying. He stalks the basements and underground passageways of New York City. He tattoos his victims' flesh with cryptic messages, using a tattoo gun loaded with poison, resulting in an agonizing, painful death. When a connection is made to the Bone Collector - the serial killer who terrorized New York more than a decade ago - Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are immediately drawn into the case.

Great story, as always
Revisado: 02-03-23
As usual, Jeffery Denver delivered a great story. The scientific and engineering details could sometimes use a little research though. For example, water pressure is the same no matter how big the pipe is and there is not high enough pressure to cut through someone in a city system. Also, the reader needs to get input from scientists for technical terms. If he said "gee cee SLASH em ess" for GC/MS one more time, I was going to hurl my phone across the room.

Historia
Will Robie escaped his small Gulf Coast hometown of Cantrell, Mississippi, after high school, severing all personal ties, and never looked back. Not once. Not until the unimaginable occurs. Unlike the missions Robie undertook in the service of his country, where his target was clearly defined, digging into his father's case only reveals more questions. Robie is drawn into the hidden underside of Cantrell, where he must face the unexpected and possibly deadly consequences of the long-ago choices made by father and son.

Good story, bad accents
Revisado: 12-02-22
I grew up relatively close to the area where this book was set so I had a little extra understanding of the area. The story was good and I appreciated that not all of the characters fit the stereotypes people have of small town Mississippi. However, the readers need to stick to non-southerm accents. And when they have to pronounce place names (e.g. Biloxi), they should look into how they're actually pronounced by the local population.

Historia
The tomb of China’s First Emperor, guarded by an underground army of terra-cotta warriors, has remained sealed for more than 2,000 years. Though it’s regarded as one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, the Chinese government won’t allow anyone to open it.

Interesting concept introduced
Revisado: 05-25-17
The storyline is good, but he got a little too mired in Chinese politics and ideology for my taste. I was, however, interested in the biotic vs. abiotic oil theories as if never heard of those before. I'll definitely have to explore that further. Overall, it was a good read.

Former special ops pilot Maya, home from the war, sees an unthinkable image captured by her nanny cam while she is at work: her two-year-old daughter playing with Maya's husband, Joe - who had been brutally murdered two weeks earlier. The provocative question at the heart of the mystery: Can you believe everything you see with your own eyes, even when you desperately want to?

Mostly good, but...
Revisado: 05-28-16
The story was a pretty easy read and kept my interest, but the ending was poorly done. He seemed to be grasping for how to tie things together. It was almost as if he had written it not knowing himself who did it and then finally decided in the last twenty pages.

Historia
When he's apprised at the last minute of a mandatory meeting abroad, Stone Barrington rushes off to Europe for a whirlwind tour of business and, of course, pleasure. But from the start the trip seems to be cursed, plagued by suspicious "accidents" and unfortunate events, and some of Stone's plans go up in flames - literally. Not a believer in coincidence, Stone sets out to learn the true source of his curious misfortune and finds that what appeared to be bad luck may, in fact, have been a warning.

Ok story...read emotionlessly
Revisado: 10-24-15
I think when the next one if this series comes out, I'll read it the old fashioned way. Roberts has difficulty conveying any sort of deep emotion vocally. A tragedy occurs to someone near Stone because of their involvement with him and he sounds like it's just a minor inconvenience. He also makes Dino sound like a toad, not attractive at all. The story is a REALLY LIGHT read. Good for the beach or something else where you're just trying to fill time enjoyably. All in all I'd say to skip this one on Audible and maybe buy it when it goes on sale in paperback.

Historia
A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Too much character development, not enough mystery
Revisado: 02-20-15
Would you try another book from Paula Hawkins and/or the narrators?
No, I wouldn't. I downloaded this book because it was on the top of the best sellers list for mystery. Although it is a mystery, most of the book is dedicated to the first person musings of three women and has little to do with the mystery. It's kind of like the first third of "Gone Girl" except that that part takes up about 80% of this book. In the end I felt like I had wasted many hours on parts that should've taken maybe half or even a quarter of the time to develop.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The performances were great. It was really well read.

Historia
Catherine Ling is one of the CIA’s most prized operatives. Raised on the unforgiving streets of Hong Kong, she was pulled into the agency at the age of 14, already having accumulated more insight and secrets than the most seasoned professionals in her world. If life has taught her anything, it is not to get attached, but there are two exceptions to that rule: Her son, Luke, and her mentor, Hu Chang.

One step away from a romance novel
Revisado: 08-12-14
What did you like best about Live to See Tomorrow? What did you like least?
It's easier to say what I liked least about it than best about it. I think it would be a tie between the difficult to believe mental telepathy angle and the romance novel feel it had to it.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay, but somewhat anticlimactic.
Would you be willing to try another one of Elisabeth Rodgers’s performances?
No, her attempts at accents were awful (and I'm not even usually sensitive to that) and her reading tended toward melodramatic at times.
Could you see Live to See Tomorrow being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Only on the Lifetime Channel.
Any additional comments?
I think Iris Johansen's books jumped the shark when she started delving into the supernatural. They're just becoming more and more unbelievable. She doesn't seem to be putting much effort into them, just churning them out fast to make money. I think this is the last one of hers I'll be getting.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Unresolved
Revisado: 07-27-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I would change the ending. It never really reached a conclusion. It just sort of ended.
Would you ever listen to anything by Gillian Flynn again?
Maybe
What about Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s performance did you like?
I liked that they didn't rely on one narrator to perform both the primarily male and primarily female voiced chapters.
Was Gone Girl worth the listening time?
No. The first quarter or third of the story is primarily made up of the two main characters waxing poetic about their lives up until the point of the first event of the story. While I later understood its necessity, it was really, really boring. Then the story picked up and became very entertaining and suspenseful, but that's only worthwhile if it ultimately reaches a clear resolution, which it didn't.
