Historia
The villagers in the sleepy hamlet of Lychford are divided. A supermarket wants to build a major branch on their border. Some welcome the employment opportunities while some object to the modernization of the local environment. Judith Mawson (local crank) knows the truth - that Lychford lies on the boundary between two worlds and that the destruction of the border will open wide the gateways to malevolent beings beyond imagination. But if she is to have her voice heard, she's going to need the assistance of some unlikely allies....

An excellently created story with believable, interesting characters. While the story did fall out pretty much the way I expected it to, there was one moment where I genuinely sat open-mouthed in surprise. A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an evening.

Historia
Yeah, yeah, the usual. A crime. A corpse. A killer. Heard it. Except this stiff happens to be a Ponsonby, scion of a venerable Edinburgh medical clan, and the manner of his death speaks of unspeakable things. Why is the body displayed like a slice of beef? How come his hands are digitally challenged? And if it's not the corpse, what is that awful smell?

Came for Tennant, stayed for the story...

Would you listen to Quite Ugly One Morning again? Why?
Certainly a story to listen to again, highly entertaining and even when you know whodunnit, these are characters well worth re-visiting.
What did you like best about this story?
All the characters in this story are interesting, even the bad guy, who you really can't wait to see get his comeuppance. The pacing of the story keeps you guessing, but gets you to the end at a gallop.
What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?
The story is set in Scotland so obviously a Scottish narrator suits perfectly. David Tennant has an extremely expressive voice, keeping the dialogue entertaining and the narrative passages engaging. Plus, he has a dead sexy voice that's no hardship to listen to either!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to this in my car and on a number of occasions simply sat in the driveway before going inside because I wanted to hear "just a little bit more". Was tempted to take a road trip somewhere just so I could listen to it all at once!
Any additional comments?
A thoroughly enjoyable listen, recommended for anyone who likes a good crime drama with a healthy helping of humour!
