A great story full of plenty of tragedy, joy and love. Not sure I understand the need for the authors notes/lecture on the apparent struggles she's had with publishers embracing foreigners writing about other cultures. it happens all the time so unsure why she seems to think it is so usual.

Helps to be a Magnum fan

Very interesting life and told with sweetness and thought. I would have liked a little more glimpse into some of the difficult people he dealt with during his career, but he went a different direction in the book. I will say that just past halfway in the book it begins to get very detailed into the Magnum series. I loved it because I remember this series and the episodes he discusses and I'm a huge fan. however, if you're not that part of the book will drag. for the rest of us, it was a treat.

Way overboard on PC

The story has potential, but the author gets stuck in over emphasizing COVID and her version of reality. Almost no conversation takes place where the author doesn't dilute the story with explaining how everyone stops and puts on their mask. The longer the book goes, the worse it gets despite most of the mask comments being based on ignorance. For good measure, the villain is a COVID skeptic which lays fertile ground for making him look even dumber than the character was in the first place. It really got exhausting. I stopped listening with two hours left.

The dynamic between characters was fun and interesting. I had trouble near the end hanging with it and wasn't overly fulfilled with the ending, but overall enjoyable listen.

Wandering Woke

It's a fairly decent premise and the story is probably worth a listen. However, there's a constant drip, drip, drip of woke wisdom and California correctness that may drive some listeners crazy. If you can get past that it I guess it's interesting enough - although I suspect many will bail halfway through.

Fun story however far fetched

Although it's not a light topic, the story is fun to follow albeit a bit far fetched about small town USA and powerful families. Narration is ok although I wish she would learn the proper way to enunciate "penitentiary". It's not a 7 syllable word for goodness sake.

Poor editing. Love David Baldacci

The story is good and I love the characters. The editing is horrible with the main character often recording script at different times within the same sentence. Very strange. Once over that, an enjoyable read.

Am almost too sweet story

A good enough read although it's more of a church oriented book or kids book as the fairly unrealistic characters say "darn", "crud" and other harsh words as well as cracking open a soda or tea to celebrate big occasions. Yes, I have a few friends like this (which is fine), but even they world find it all a bit boring. The main characters passionate love affairs get really hot when they finally sneak off to kiss. Whooo... Yes, these s adult characters. It's a cute enough story, but just a little too sanitized even for my fairly square personality.

If you like weak minded, whiney characters manipulating other weak minded characters you'll love this one. Whew... Couldn't wait for it to end.

Pretty good if you're a Fan

The book has some interesting discussions and stories, but mostly is focused on her writing songs. The book would have been far more engaging to sprinkle in more stories of her life and experiences. Fans of Dolly will love this and I enjoyed it, but you'll need to appreciate the process and her journey.
