Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Wow!

Haunting yet inspiring. Gives you a newfound appreciation for the world, the people you meet, what it means to be alone (literally and figuratively), and a unique perspective on the VASTNESS of existence. Could not recommend this book more.

Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Great Story - Fun mix of history and fiction
Revisado: 09-21-23
Great story, the way feminist history and witch lore were blended was great.
Loved all of the references to historic NYC locations and happenings. I live in the city and being able to walk around and listen to a work of fiction set here was really fun.

Historia
For generations the Burdens were one of the wealthiest families in New York, thanks to the inherited fortune of Cornelius "The Commodore" Vanderbilt. By 1955, the year of Wendy Burden's birth, the Burdens had become a clan of overfunded, quirky and brainy, steadfastly chauvinistic, and ultimately doomed bluebloods on the verge of financial and moral decline---and were rarely seen not holding a drink.

What a read!
Revisado: 10-26-21
Juicy, fascinating, and tragic!
A complete pleasure to listen to.
I put off reading/listening to this book after it was recommended to me by my husband; I really wish I hadn’t waited.
If you’re into dynastic lineage stories, this book is for you. Wendy’s descriptive, and sometimes hilarious, language made this story hard not to binge.
Why hasn’t this been adapted for film!?
