Pulling together pop culture, psychology and science, this book is an amazing resource for all of us living in the 21 century!

Early in the book, Ella gives examples from two different common television tropes: the girl who got dumped eating a tub of ice cream; and the kids running and playing, only to quick breaks to recharge with food. The show depicts the ice-cream as humorous and quickly moves on to the next scene -- but, in real life, we've got to live with the empty tubs and greesy pizza boxes, along with the guilt and condemnation associated. As adults, food has become a major part of our lives, glamorized and presented more as pleasure than nutrition.

I especially liked her chapter on weight loss. I have struggled with my weight about my whole life and have managed to lose 50 pounds. But, I would have loved to have these insights into the psychology. I fell victim to all this thinking that Ella describes. Anxiety, dissatisfaction, thinking that I will not ever be "healthy" until I shed every pound. She even talks about a friend who fixated on a healthy smoothy, only to get kidney stones from it! She talks about the pressure we feel from others, the judgment we constantly put on ourselves and the unrealistic expectations. We will beat ourselves up for only losing 4 pounds in a month instead of 10 - how crazy! And we think that reaching our goal weight will change everything in our lives-- jobs and relationships.

I love this book - helping us all have realistic expectations and be much more healthy (emotionally and physically!).

I've never had a dad to talk to me about supporting my partner through pregnancy and caring for her and the baby after birth. So, I am so grateful for this gift of this book! It reads like a friend or family member retelling his story and sharing what to expect and how to deal with the different challenges.

Little humor and real issues are thrown in throughout the book -- I liked the line: The words, "I'm pregnant" are the scariest in the English language. And I really liked how he encourages men to do a little more to help their partner or wife, like getting up and watching TV with her in the middle of the night when pregnancy is keeping her up.

I think the chapter on exercise was my favorite. I thought it was hilarious and related when he shared about his own frustration with the dad bod. But, he shares about the several benefits of exercise for a mom -- reducing stress and even getting stronger for labor!

Thank you, Curtis, for taking the time to collect all these stories and tips!

I talk with people all the time who are noticing something is off with Gen Z. Now, we all have our problems and shortcomings, so I don’t mean to be judgmental. But, it seems clear that technology has made it difficult for teens and young adults to grow in social skills. This book addresses a much-needed problem!

“Self-esteem plays a crucial role in social skills.” I love this line. I tend to agree with the author that the fear of social interaction is caused by wondering whether or not you are worthy of people’s time and attention. I could definitely relate to this.

All the different tips are useful regarding communication and listening skills. I was especially interested in the chapter on knowing your self-worth. “Life exists for you and not vice versa.” The author shares how we don’t have to believe that our lives only consist of checklists. She suggests focusing on where you are and how you feel. It gives you a break.

I also really loved what she said about confidence. It is that “I can do it” voice. And you can develop it by trying out new things and taking risks (even small risks). And also, avoid trying to be perfect. It is ok to be flawed.

These tips are so helpful, I forgot they were just for teens! Thank you, Wildine, for bringing this amazing gift!

I love how this is set to music. It is so easy to feel defeated and have a scarcity mindset. So, we need resources like this one to help us stay positive and endure. I can feel myself growing happier and feeling good as these are mentioned.

I especially like the affirmation: “I have all kinds of riches in this life.” Knowing that riches are not just a number on a bank statement is important. But, saying it as an affirmation brings joy to me. Because I know that this is true, it helps me meditate on that reality.

These affirmations help me deal with the guilt associated with money. Having a good relationship with money as a gift from God is important to me. And these help me remember all that God has already given me.

“I make money doing what I enjoy.” This one hit me too a whole lot. As well as “I make more money when I am having fun.”

“I use funds to make other people’s lives better.” Some of these affirmations are worth sitting on for a while and letting it sink it. “I’m glad to pay my bills because of everything they give me.” Man, I love this! Changing my mindset around the bills. I’m actually grateful for the bills!

“I overcome all my financial phobias.” Feeling secure through finances is normal, but there is so much fear about whether it’s coming in or not. I need to see it for what it is — phobias that are holding me back!

These affirmations are educational, inspirational and challenging. What a great practice to listen to these!!

It is astonishing how much can be understood about breathing - scientifically, spiritually and historically. I thought this book was so interesting because it was just so simple and profound. Finding ways to control and practice breathing can bring so many benefits.

Shallow breathing tells the body that you are under threat. Taking a pause to breathe deeply interrupts this thought process. The longer you exhale, the more your lungs expand and send the message to your brain that you are not in danger. The benefits are piled up - focus, lower blood sugar, less stress, better sleep, improve heart, pain management, etc.

The author offers several kinds of breathing exercises, walking you through each one, including circular breathing, box breathing (drawing a box in your mind), etc. I thought breathing would be sorta boring, but it is actually challenging and a skill to build up!

I especially liked his chapter on breathing to address chronic pain. It is so fascinating how pain is interpreted (sometimes wrongly) by the brain and how breathing can communicate to our brains!

This is a standard book anyone needs who is interested in their overall health!

I’ll be honest. I didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did.

First, I could tell that Mia was speaking from personal experiences. She talks about dating all those losers, until she came to realize that she was still the common denominator in the bad relationships.

Second, this book gives fresh answers to the question of why we tend to sabotage ourselves. They are coping mechanisms when we can’t meet our needs. They numb us initially — like partying before a test. But, often, we don’t even realize we are doing it. So, Mia talks about becoming conscious of it — like realizing that we are eating the chocolate cake when we shouldn’t. She shares different causes of self-sabotage, including the trap of perfectionism (we never work on that project because we think it needs to be perfect) or the trap of comfort zone (we don’t leave a bad marriage because we are used to it; or we marry a critical woman who reminds us of our mom).

Third, I loved all the stories and examples. I didn’t realize how often I will sabotage myself until I heard all the ways I “could” sabotage myself. For instance, when we get a good grade or job, we tend to think “this isn’t real.” In fact, it is common for people to immediately lose things right after acquiring them - how tragic!

Fourth, this is practical with exercises to reflect and work on yourself.

Fifth, it is deeply insightful. I got emotional listening to some of it. After describing a woman in an unhealthy relationship, she comments: “We are conditioned to believe that if we let go of what we currently have, what will take its place will be far worse.” That really hit me. “If you have been programmed to behave in self-sabotaging ways, then you can program yourself to behave differently.” We are in autopilot - doing things we hate like working a terrible job without changing. Then, when we do get free time, we spend it with passive things like TV. The real problem is that we don’t know what we want.

I highly recommend this for the person who wants to understand themselves and have a brighter future!

Anxiety-Reducing for Any New Mom!

The author shows a great understanding for the stress first time moms may feel. While firsts can be exciting and hopeful, they can also be a time of “intense pressure to fit into a mold” or like you are “building a plane while flying it.”

I love how often Jocelyn gives comments of reassurance to moms who will need it. She says, “the only perfect parents are the ones who don’t have kids yet.” And her advice is to avoid letting your previous expectations haunt you. Once you realize that you can change your mind, you can be free to laugh and have fun.

So much of this book is about sharing what to expect and what is normal to help moms freak out a little less. She shares the different ways your baby may look the day after birth and what is normal for sleeping. She goes into detail about the physical and emotional areas you will need to recover after birth (for example, you’ll want to pee often to reduce pain).

It really is a start-to-finish, comprehensive book. In it, you will get advice for everything. There’s actually two chapters on breastfeeding and bottle feeding! She has advice on everything: when to sign up for a birthing class and things to talk about while preparing (such as baptism) and to make sure baby is not wearing a hat to bed.

This book is great for new moms to feel better and more prepared. But, it is also a great tool for dads to prepare. I highly recommend this to new and old parents!

I’ve been married for 11 years and couldn’t imagine the pain Jordan has gone through. Thank you so much for your courage and vulnerability to share your story.

“I am fortunate enough to still be alive.” This may encompass the message of the book. The gratitude for life. But, also the responsibility to share what he has learned. The attitude is that of someone really hoping to help the listeners in any way he can. Whether it is the warning not to smoke or to listen to medical workers about COVID or how to save money on your next trip to Vegas, he has something to offer from great life experience.

This is a sweet, beautiful sentiment to his late wife, showing gratitude for her skills as a bookkeeper, reminiscing on one of his first conversations with her mom, and fondly remembering seeing their dog as they come home.

He delves into the painful experiences. Not just the cancer, but also what they’ve learned through the loss of her son.

I’ve heard once that wisdom is perspective. And this is a work full of perspective!

Ladyish has the information of an expert with the tone of an older sister. I imagine all the parents out there who want to help their daughter walk through this time in their life, but having all kinds of challenges. First, they may not understand the challenges their daughter is facing. This book is a great introduction for parents to know what may be going on - whether they have just forgotten what it was like to get your first period or have never gotten one themselves! Early on in the book, the author mentions how even girls who appear confident usually are struggling with comparison. It’s a basic idea that I totally overlooked. Second, kids are now getting to an age of more independence and will feel embarrassed by these topics. This book is a great tool for solving both concerns.

The book is very comforting for teens who may be struggling with confidence. For instance, when talking about different times to get a first period, the author mentions how it is different for different girls and not to feel the need to fit in with what’s normal. “It’s your body and listening to it is important.” What a great message!

I love the chapter on sleep where she shares scientific information and practical tools. It is pretty convincing to hear all the drawbacks to sleeplessness, like anxiety and depression. But, I didn’t realize the physical effects, like your hunger hormone increasing, causing weight-gain!

It’s one thing to tell a girl to have a better body image. But, how do you do it? The author shares the different trends in different generations - also explaining how difficult (or impossible) some of it is. She unpacks where these pressures are coming from in order to combat them. 40-50% of girls in the first and second grade don’t like certain parts of the way they look. This is a topic that we have to talk about!

I love how practical this book is - a must-read for parents and girls!

“Quantum physics is a world within a world.” So fascinating! I couldn’t put it down — this book covers the questions I have always wondered — things like, the spooky side of physics — like when you are about to call someone, who ends up calling you. Can you believe there are actual scientific theories around that!? And what the multiverse has to do with subatomic particles.

Analogies are used throughout to help make sense of these difficult concepts. For instance, gravity is considered the fourth puzzle piece that scientists believe will make the rest of quantum physics work, they just don’t know how. Like a magician, quantum physics appears to be magic, but is all calculable. Also, subatomic particles can have multiply properties, like a stone and water.

This is all really new to me, but it is very interesting - and just in time for Ant Man!

I love the mission of Pantheon Space Academy - that they are looking to bring education away from being a chore, to being fun and enjoy in order to bring hope for the future!
