Historia
Stephen Hawking not only unraveled some of the universe's greatest mysteries but also believed science plays a critical role in fixing problems here on Earth. Now, as we face immense challenges on our planet - including climate change, the threat of nuclear war, and the development of artificial intelligence - he turns his attention to the most urgent issues facing us. Will humanity survive? Should we colonize space? Does God exist? These are just a few of the questions Hawking addresses in this wide-ranging, passionately argued final book from one of the greatest minds in history.

Not what I expected in a science book
Revisado: 06-29-22
Stephen, a Brit from Cambridge, comes across as bitter and intolerant. With no less than 3 barbs against Trump, Stephen obviously suffered from Trump derangement syndrome. I couldn’t take him seriously and would not recommend this book.

Historia
John Edmund Delezen felt a kinship with the people he was instructed to kill in Vietnam; they were all at the mercy of the land. His memoir begins when he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam in March of 1967. He volunteered for the Third Force Recon Company, whose job it was to locate and infiltrate enemy lines undetected and map their locations and learn details of their status. The duty was often painful both physically and mentally. He was stricken with malaria in November of 1967, wounded by a grenade in February of 1968, and hit by a bullet later that summer.

Stopped me in my tracks, twice
Revisado: 04-29-21
The author’s description of hunger was extremely powerful. Followed by a moving recount of laughter when he “quit” the Marines. Good stories about recon missions from the point.

Historia
On the killing ground that was the island of Guadalcanal, a 2,000-yard-long ridge rose from the jungle canopy. Behind it lay the all-important air base of Henderson Field. And if Henderson Field fell, it would mean the almost certain death or capture of all 12,500 marines on the island. But the marines positioned on the ridge were no normal fighters - they were the hard-fighting men of Edson's Raiders, an elite fighting unit within an already elite Marine Corps.

Moving, detailed, and lovingly narrated personal account
Revisado: 01-19-21
The narrator does an excellent job, not too many character voices but just enough.
The story as seen through the eyes of a young Marine gives a vivid account of the island campaigns he was involved in.
The epilogue is one of the best I’ve heard.

Historia
By August 1968, the American space program was in danger of failing in its two most important objectives: to land a man on the moon by President Kennedy's end-of-decade deadline and to triumph over the Soviets in space. With its back against the wall, NASA made an almost unimaginable leap: It would scrap its usual methodical approach and risk everything on a sudden launch, sending the first men in history to the moon - in just four months.

Incredible untold story of achievement
Revisado: 06-08-19
Having not grown up during the apace race I didn’t have an appreciation for the Apollo missions. This story of this mission and the NASA program in general is awe inspiring.

Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.
