Historia
Through hard work and, well, tenacity, Jack Black and Kyle Gass catapulted themselves into rock superstardom. But before they were the only two members of the best rock band on earth, they were just Jack and Kyle, two theater students finding their footing in Los Angeles. The D’s trajectory was a slow and steady rise from clubs to a guest spot on the hit show Mr. Show on HBO to albums to film to headlining festivals across the globe. But it wasn’t without its pains. This is their story. These are their Words + Music.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Depressing and a little too real

Historia
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Boring

I wanted to like this book, but I found the narrator and story so boring. The pace was too slow for me and I couldn’t keep listening.

Great performance by Ray Porter as usual, only let down by plot holes with time travel and bad science (imho).

It seemed like a good idea.... Genetically engineer a species of humanoid workers - strong, tireless, minimally intelligent - to become laborers for humans. What could possibly go wrong? For a thousand years, humans have had to fight for their survival against the mute, feral “Ants”, created as workers but now gone rogue, scavenging and slaughtering everything in their path.

I was captured by the initial premise which seemed like an original idea, but the story just dragged for so long and I was ultimately bored most of the time.

Tedious
Revisado: 12-29-21
This audiobook read like someone narrating a real time strategy game. If you like video games that might sound great but in practice I found it extremely dry and tedious. I really don’t need to hear about the tiniest minutia of strategy resource and unit management. Bleh. Would not recommend

“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job - set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis”. There are just two problems: The colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets.

Author thinks Alien fans care about his UX job
Revisado: 07-04-21
This book reads like the author is a user experience designer with a chip on their shoulder about not being taken seriously by full stack programmers.
And what a surprise the author is indeed a self described “experience designer”. Good for them. But no one cares. I don’t want to hear about frontend design again and again along with their personal hang ups in an Alien story.
