Historia
In July 1970, 18-year-old Paula Oberbroeckling left her house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and never returned. A cold case for 50 years, Paula’s story had been largely forgotten when Katherine Dykstra began looking for answers. A woman was dead. Why had no one been held responsible? How could a community give up and move on? Could there ever be justice for Paula?

Paula’s Story is Not Really About Paula at All
Revisado: 08-03-21
Let me start out by saying that I rarely write a review but this book I really feel like I need to warn potential readers. The book is entitled, “what Happened to Paula” but after the first four hours this became a book more about the author’s family and other irrelevant information. The story could have easily been shortened by several hours if you really wanted to just hear Paula’s tragedy.

Very sad!
Revisado: 02-29-20
This book started out very relatable to me as my son shared most of the same struggles with college as Maddy. At the time (13 years ago) my husband and I faced the same fears and pain as did Maddy’s parents and friends. Thankfully, our son is doing well in life now but it took bringing him home from college to get to that point.
While I enjoyed the book, it was too lengthy at times and I began to wonder if the author was more about telling her own story of struggling in college than showcasing who the book was supposed to be about.
All in all, the book was informative and probably should be a prerequisite for ANY parent sending their child off to college.

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.
