Historia
Seventeen seconds can change a life forever. This is what Rex Connor learned on a gorgeous summer afternoon in 1970 when, as a lifeguard, he diverted his gaze for 17 seconds and tragedy occurred. Forty years later the waves of that day still ripple through the lives of countless people, including his son, Cole.

Lovely story
Revisado: 10-29-17
Finally, a book with no swearing, no sex, no violence. Just a good story with a great moral that you can live with each and every day. If more people lived by the Golden rule & implemented the 17 second miracle, life would be better for many.
The narrator was perfect, he sounded like he was smiling almost the entire time.

Historia
Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future.

Sweet story
Revisado: 10-29-17
This is a feel good book. It has warmth and charm. The actual story is very interesting an keeps you guessing about what the end will be for these characters. Fannie Flagg makes quirky characters come to life and I wish I could meet most of them. Barely any swearing, a “PG” book.

To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 10-09-17
This book actually made me gasp, laugh and sob audibly. I was not expecting much based on the horrible reviews. I haven’t seen the “R” rated film. This book is not an “R” rated book, based on any actual, scenes, language or content. However, the subject is mature, and this would not be a book for a young person to read in my opinion. It does deal with rape/sexual abuse, and it is not graphic whatsoever.
The narration is predominately from a young child, and it ripped my heart out. It IS annoying at first, but as soon as you realize the enormity of the situation, everything becomes terribly clear.
The entire book was phenomenal, the way it is narrated made it come alive. (The best book I can liken it to is, “The Help.” In the manner of having narration by various characters.)
I had my family asking me what has happened as I listened, because they heard it on a speaker, and I was painting a living room. It hooked them, just from just the bits and pieces they had heard. That is how powerful the child’s voice was.

I love and adore Mary Higgins Clark’s books. This one however, gets a touch tedious and repetitive in places. It is still a great book, but I don’t reread it as often as others by her.
Superb narrator.

Historia
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern, twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 10-06-17
This book is like a piece of origami.
On the outside, it looks like it is simply a sweet story of a young girl meeting the great Sherlock Holmes.
Then the story begins to unfold, it becomes so much more than that. Additionally, it is beautifully written.
There is so much thatI love about this novel, the labyrinth like story, grasping you by the hand, leading you on paths you never see coming, best of all, an extremely satisfying conclusion.
This begins a magnificent series, that only gets better with each consecutive book.
The narrator is phenomenal, she IS Mary Russell.
I never gush about books, but, this is an exception, the series, characters, plots, dialogue...everything makes me gush!

Couldn't listen to horrible narration
Revisado: 07-13-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better narrator.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Nothing read by this lady.
What didn’t you like about Jennifer Vaughn’s performance?
Annoying, too fast, I checked my speed several times, nope, it is her. There is no pausing whatsoever. No inflection or, pace changes. I felt out of breath simply listening to her. I only made it through 7 minutes!
What character would you cut from The Cavalier in White?
Don't know, will get the physical book from the library.
Any additional comments?
New narrator. Marcia Muller is one of my favorite authors, I was extremely excited that she had this series available, I have never read it before.
