Should have been labeled as Christian literature
Revisado: 06-09-24
This book is so full of Jesus-juice and Bible verses… it should definitely have been labeled as a Christian novel. Unfortunately very disappointed as this is not what I was expecting, not my genre at all.

Not as good as first book
Revisado: 03-16-24
The first book in this series was so so good, I had high expectations of the second book. Unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the same standards. It’s predictable to the end.

Historia
This intimate memoir reveals the woman inside one of autism’s most prominent figures, Jennifer O'Toole. At the age of 35, Jennifer was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, and for the first time in her life, things made sense. Now, she exposes the constant struggle between carefully crafted persona and authentic existence, editing the autism script with wit, candor, passion, and power. Her journey is one of reverse-self-discovery not only as an Aspie but - more importantly - as a thoroughly modern woman.

I devoured this book in 2 days and will re-listen over and over again. I’ve never had someone speak out my innermost thoughts and feelings so clearly and eloquently. Thank you.

Didn’t expect such a religious story
Revisado: 01-03-24
I wish this book had been classified as Christian literature. So much praying, quoting from the Bible, endless references to trusting in god etc etc… Not my cup of tea. Despite that, not a bad story.

Really bad accents
Revisado: 12-03-23
I like most of Lucinda Riley’s books, but believe she should have stuck to writing rather than narrating. The attempts at Greek and Italian accents are cringeworthy. Another narrator would have done the book more justice
The story is pretty good, a bit too “happily ever after” for me, but not bad.

Poor sequel to book 1
Revisado: 11-15-23
The first book in the series was well written and gripping. This book is so slow and rambling with way too many characters. A disappointing sequel, I was really hoping for better.

Historia
Persomi is young, white, and poor, born the middle child of illiterate sharecroppers on the prosperous Fourie farm in the South African Bushveld. Persomi’s world is extraordinarily small. She has never been to the local village and spends her days absorbed in the rhythms of the natural world around her, escaping the brutality and squalor of her family home through the newspapers and books passed down to her from the main house and through her walks in the nearby mountains.

The narration is terrible and destroys what might have been a good listen
Revisado: 11-08-23
Could not get past the first hour. The narrator does a terrible job of pronouncing words in the Afrikaans dialect. As a South African I could often not work out what on earth she was trying to say. A different narrator might have made it into a good listen.

Long, boring and with a weird incestuous vibe
Revisado: 06-23-23
It sounded interesting, and the narrator is pretty good, but it is by no means a thriller. More like a melodrama with hints of incest and a confusing narrative.

Nazi soldiers speaking in Cockney accents?
Revisado: 03-14-23
It’s a really gripping, tragic story. But I was put off by the narrator using a variety of British accents as the voices for German, Polish, Greek characters. A nazi soldier with a Cockney accent just does not work for me. A better narrator would do justice to this great story.

A really enjoyable listen - adventurous, brave sad and funny. I knew nothing about American women’s involvement in WW1, so this was a great piece of history.
