I am a great fan of Sherlock Holmes and when I first saw what the Laurie King books are about I was not going to like them at all! After reading one of them I couldn't wait to read the rest of them and found them all very well written by, I believe, a scholar of the old Hebrew language and religion. The idea of an older retired Sherlock with a wife didn't set well with me but ms King uses such intelligence in her stories and ties them to the events that are familiar to me from reading the Sherlock Holmes stories for years that they seemed to follow the old stories without a hitch. There is a bit of tongue in cheek humor involved but not a whole lot-the stories are very serious. I think they are great!

The Waterhorse SWIMS !!!!!

This is a delightful story which was written for children but can absolutely mesmerize adults! The awkward Waterhorse joins the family like a doggy pet and brings out all of the family members' soft warm fuzzy feelings. The people in this family are in a win/win situation.

Short Stories review

I find this book fascinating. There is Drama, Mystery, History, a little of comedy, one story,"The Cat Who Walked By Himself" by Kipling is so full of imagination it is unbelievable. I have listened to it many times and am not tired of it yet.The reader did an excellent job, also. The only story I had read previous to acquiring this one is Poe's "The Black Cat". The other stories in the book are not the mainstream that you see everywhere, Like "The Girl from Arles"-or at least I had never read it before. This book was well worth the effort to get it and continues to entertain me.
