Historia
In a sleepy seaside town in Maine, recently widowed Eveleth "Evvie" Drake rarely leaves her large, painfully empty house nearly a year after her husband’s death in a car crash. Everyone in town, even her best friend, Andy, thinks grief keeps her locked inside, and Evvie doesn’t correct them. Meanwhile, in New York City, Dean Tenney, former Major League pitcher and Andy’s childhood best friend, is wrestling with what miserable athletes living out their worst nightmares call the "yips": he can’t throw straight anymore, and, even worse, he can’t figure out why.

Love, love, LOVE this book.
Revisado: 03-09-24
In case it wasn't clear from my review title, I loved this book. Great story, completely relatable characters, perfect narration...full of one-line zingers. I enjoyed it so much, didn't want it to end SO much, that I listened to it again immediately. Linda, please keep writing. And keep using Julia for your narrator.

Loved this story!
Revisado: 01-20-24
Although the ending was a little weak and predictable, (and when did all romances start adding on a special “Epilogue “ chapter???), this was still super fun and entertaining. The food scenes were really good; the whole thing makes me want to go to Vienna in the winter.

I absolutely loved this book. Other reviewers have given more in-depth reviews and summed up everything I want to say--the great plot, believable characters, great little snippets about Korean food, culture, K-pop....Just listen to it! You'll love it too!

No. Just…..no.
Revisado: 07-20-22
Very weak story, characters about whom I couldn’t work up a good “meh”, and while I absolutely love Phyllida Nash’s narration of anything by Georgette Heyer, in my opinion her voice is not well-suited to these characters. I highly recommend “The Old Girls Network”, however, and will give Judy Leigh another try.

Historia
After a health scare, 77-year-old Barbara goes to convalesce in the sleepy Somerset village of Winsleigh Green with her sister, Pauline, who is now a widow. The sisters are like chalk and cheese - Barbara, outspoken and aloof and Pauline, good natured and homely - so it’s not long before the tension starts to rise. But when Pauline accidentally knocks down a vagrant who goes by the name of Bisto Mulligan, the ladies find themselves with another houseguest.

Great story and narration...but needs improvement
Revisado: 07-30-21
Burt Reynolds has absolutely the perfect voice to narrate the Spenser books. Can't imagine why they would ever get anyone else. However, there were so many truly flinch-worthy mispronunciations, it really detracted from the overall enjoyment. Merlot, Nahant, moot, minute (as in small, not the unit of time), just to name a few, and I'd swear he said "Libarry" instead of "Library" more than once. A Boston resident would certainly know how to pronounce Nahant. But still, Reynolds did a great job--and I know I'll listen to this collection again.

Historia
In her father’s household Althea Ervine was used to having the running of things - until her father disowned her (again) and Althea fled to her sister’s home in London. For the first time in her life Althea gave herself up to the gaiety of a purely social life, to the theatre and parties and the admiration of young men. The most ardent of these young men was Edward Pendarly, and Althea thought she could like him very much. But the infuriating, fascinating Sir Tracy Calendar hinted that Edward’s intentions were not all they should be. But why did Sir Tracy care, and for that matter, what were Sir Tracy’s intentions?

Moderately amusing story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 01-05-21
Seems like the author wanted to get every possible reference to Regency England out of the way in the first half hour—but that would have been tolerable if not for the truly awful narrator. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Even that could have been overlooked except for the unbelievable number of mispronunciations and over-the-top fake accent. Save yourself, skip this one, and stick to Georgette Heyer. It’s time you’ll never get back.

This is the fourth book in the series that I have listened to, and the best by far. Great believable characters, really good narrator, although the ending is a bit cheese-ball. But still great fun, and will listen to it again!

Shallow story.
Revisado: 02-28-20
Oh my word...I found Angie to be the most annoying heroine ever created. If I never hear another homespun pearl of wisdom from her Grandma Sophia, it will be too soon.
I found all of the characters to be boring, not relatable, not believable, and barely likable. With the possible exception of J.T. who is just too good to be true. Two-dimensional characters; I kept waiting for the story to get better...but It. Never. Did. That's nine hours that I'll never get back.
The narrator had a style that grated on my nerves, but I'm sure that's just me. I've listened to the other three books in this series, all of which were head and shoulders above this one. Cannot recommend this one.
