Been a minute since I couldn’t wait to listen. Great story, fantastic performance. Burning my way through season 2 wondering if there will be a season 3?

Historia
The time to rethink degenerative brain disorders has come. With no biological boundaries between neurodegenerative diseases, illnesses such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's result from a large spectrum of biological abnormalities, hampering effective treatment. Acclaimed neurologist Dr. Alberto Espay and Parkinson's advocate Benjamin Stecher present compelling evidence that these diseases should be targeted according to genetic and molecular signatures rather than clinical diagnoses.

I tried, I really did. But I'll be sitting down to finish this one, hard copy in hand. The narration was pretty much nails on the chalkboard for me. Very distracting over-the-top enunciation on Every. Single. Word.

Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.

Powerful. Moving. A must-listen.
Revisado: 06-20-20
This was one of the most powerful books I’ve listened to ... possibly ever. The letter-to-son format was incredibly moving and had me thinking about my own three children, and what I would say to them.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

I really tried to like this book.
Revisado: 01-09-19
Cool concept but the main character, Jazz, completely gets in the way.
She is is so poorly written and agonizingly repetitive, her consistent, plot-driving, bone-headed, self-absorption makes it impossible to empathize with her in any way - so I gave up trying.
About halfway through, she becomes totally unlikeable, and I found myself audibly rolling my eyes while listening to Rosario Dawson attempt to rescue this story. In the last act I was hoping Weir would just kill her off from the result of her own short sighted, blind arrogance. No such luck.
If you want to be annoyed for 8 hours and 57 minutes - don't miss this one!

Big fan of Stephenson, but this one is one of my new favorites. Fantastic performance by Malcom Hillgartner, I found myself looking for any opportunity to sneak a listen.

Historia
New York Times reporter and best-selling author John Branch takes listeners to the magnificent red soil and rocky arroyos of southern Utah, where the Wright family of Smith Mesa have for generations raised cattle and world-champion saddle-bronc riders - some call them the most successful rodeo family in history. Filled with vivid scenes of cattle ranching and the high drama of rodeo, The Last Cowboys follows three generations of Wrights through the seasons as they are battered by drought, the falling price of beef, and rodeo's ever-present risks of serious injury.

Well written, could have been a great performance
Revisado: 05-18-18
For such a well written story, the reading performance wasn’t my favorite. Felt like he was just plowing through, and after having heard the author on NPR it left me wishing he had read his book instead.
