Historia
In a boarded-up house on a dead-end street at the edge of the wild Washington woods lives a family of three. A teenage girl who isn’t allowed outside, not after last time. A man who drinks alone in front of his TV, trying to ignore the gaps in his memory. And a house cat who loves napping and reading the Bible. An unspeakable secret binds them together, but when a new neighbor moves in next door, what is buried out among the birch trees may come back to haunt them all.

Good story
Revisado: 09-07-24
Enjoyed the story and the development of the characters. The robotic, breathy reading of the narrator was too much. I almost quit listening a few times because of her cadence.

Civil War story
Revisado: 04-06-24
The author writes a well developed story with believable situations that stay true to the era. She gave just enough details that you could picture yourself as an onlooker yat these historical battles. The love stories are perfect imo with the right amount of details, without devouring the storyline. Exceptional read.

They author did a great job interweaving the lives of four women from very different background and the adversity each faced during wartime. The narrator did a captivating job.

Captivating story
Revisado: 03-02-24
Loved, loved, loved this story. Told from the viewpoint of a young girl as she comes of age. It’s not a happy story, but a realistic story for the time. The ending wraps up nicely leaving you with a happiness for the main character and her family.

The story contained lots of action and moves fairly quickly. It kept my interest from the beginning. Didn’t care for the narrator, she’s rather monotone.

I love the way the author told the story of Mary. She had such a profound positive influence on those around her while being considered a subhuman by society. Enjoyed the reader’s performance.
