Historia
The game's afoot once more as the long-suffering Dr. John Watson and a partially decomposed Warlock Holmes (though he's getting better) face off against Moriarty's gang, the Pinkertons, flesh-eating horses, a parliament of imps, boredom, Surrey, a succubus, an overly Canadian aristocrat, a tricycle fight to the death, and the dreaded Pumpcrow. Oh, and a hellhound, one assumes.

A new twist on the Great Detective
Revisado: 04-07-23
So welcome to the latest revamping of the Sherlock (Warlock) and John stories. This rewrite places 'Tongue Firmly Cheek' in its reworking of the famous sleuthing duo.
It's fun and the Narrator - Robert Garson - does a great job.

Boyd Knight found his calling when he joined the Marines and qualified for the elite Force Recon. He'd found a tribe and a family, so when a hand grenade landed near his team, he jumped on it without thought or regret. But instead of winding up dead, he wakes up butt-naked in a cave full of monsters with a knife in one hand and a pistol in the other. He's been chosen by Raguel, the Five-Faced God of Justice, and entrusted with the power of the Vigil Bound.

Some interesting twists
Revisado: 04-07-23
Boyd Knight is a name that an MC Drill Sgt would just have too much fun with. Normally, I don't care for LitRPG - but, this one is OK.
Our hero just got himself and his squad killed in the Middle East. So now he has been moved bodily across the meta-universe to a LirRPG world where he is needed. Rather than go it alone he drags the ghost of one teammates with him. It doesn't take a lot of time for them to work out what to do.
Luckily they speak English without Google Translate.

Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers. The enormous eldritch horror living deep below the building. As the only full-time employee at the 24 hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.

A lot like episodes of The Original Twilight Zone. Jack is the only full-time employee at the gas station near the edge of town. He needs to defend the station against mysterious lawn gnomes, murder cult members, mutant raccoons, and the phantom cowboy who lives in the bathroom.

A wonderful continuation of his Watchers series
Revisado: 04-06-23
While this is a wonderful stand-alone book - if you haven't read (or listened to) "Watchers" by Dean Koontz you should pick up a copy and read it first. It is not a requirement but will enhance your enjoyment of this book.
Several generations ago a genetically enhanced Golden Retriever escaped from a government research lab in Orange County, California. About six to eight generations later puppies from the original dog have spread across the West. Living in small communities they are protected by a network of loving humans.
But, due to the destruction of a genetics lab in Arizona which killed almost 100 scientists, a twisted and heavily infected CEO escapes to California. He has purchased a hideout in Costa Rica and stashed $100,000,000 to live a degenerated lifestyle. But he wants to stop in Lake Tahoe to try and buy the affection of his college girlfriend, whom he lost more than 20 years ago.
However, she is a widow with an 11-year-old autistic boy and has no interest in the CEO. Kipp, a decedent of the original lab dog experiment leaves the home of his recently deceased owner in search of the boy. Along the way, he dodges killers from the Dark Web and acquires a new human (ex-Navy Seal). This duo meets up with the widow, her son, and a few friends. Together they face those who were behind the destruction of the Lab and the killers from the Dark web.
Edoardo Ballerini narration is superb.

Raze is "just" a lowly Gearblin chained to the quest-giver desk at the worst (and only) arcade in town. And that’s a problem for her. It means that she’s a Non-Participating Citizen, someone who can’t see her stats nor make opposed rolls against Heroes. It’s why her life’s worth less than the vendor trash she doles out. The old-timers swear it didn’t used to be like this; their issues only began once RNGesus went AFK a thousand years ago, leaving the questionably blessed Heroes to conquer everything without consequence.

New twist in Magic
Revisado: 03-26-23
Enjoyable tale of the newest Plastic Magician. While there may be magicians who can throw fireballs, our hero is a newly minted nearsighted apprentice who works with plastic (AKA locally known as Polymaking). It's 1906, few people have cars, no planes, and the fastest way to travel is by glass mirror. Limited in distance - but carbon neutral.
So, Alvie Brechenmacher (our hero) is on her way from the US to England to start her apprenticeship with the world-renowned Magician Marion Praff. There are a few magicians guilds and their yearly conference will be held soon. Alvie and Magician Praff develop a new use for Polymaking and want to show their their idea at the conference. But, they need to overcome an insidious attempt to steal their invention by a treacherous rival.

I paused in the reading, but I am glad I finished
Revisado: 03-08-23
When I started this story I really wasn't in the mood for a Victorian romance. So, half way through, I put it aside and enjoyed several other stories.
BUT, this story kept calling me back to finish it. So a day ago I returned to Victorian England and the tale of Lady Jane. And I'm glad I did!
This is the tale of love discarded and regained, and I'm glad I returned.
The reader/narrator was perfect for this story and I shall keep an eye (ear) open for her other readings.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

I Loved It
Revisado: 03-07-23
The twist of the magic world of Mona the "Bakery Wizard" is truly a joy to listen to, (I have the audio book) and I imagine to read. This was a creative exercise that shows T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon's pen name) for her ability to reach beyond the normal and into the realm of the strange and very fantastical. In most 'action' stories the hero requires a sidekick, but Mona bakes her own sidekick in the form of a Ginger Bread man. Then she creates her own group of marauders in the form of 17" Ginger Bread soldiers. Don't get me started on her squad of 14' tall bread golems used to hold the city gate.
Patricia Santomasso did a wonderful job on the narration. I'm looking for more books that she has read as well as T. Kingfishers books.
