Historia
Are you an Orthodox Christian who wonders how to explain to your Baptist grandmother, your Buddhist neighbor, or the Jehovah’s Witness at your door how your faith differs from theirs? Or are you a member of another faith who is curious what Orthodoxy is all about? Look no further. In Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy, Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick covers the gamut of ancient heresies, modern Christian denominations, fringe groups, and major world religions, highlighting the main points of each faith.

A Beautifully Drawn Landscape
Revisado: 02-26-23
Father Andrew covers the diversity of religious belief and practice in our contemporary world with love and humility. While those outside the Eastern Orthodox tradition—I’m Anglo-Catholic—may take issue with some details here and there, Andrew Damick is consistently generous and quick to admit his own limitations. This is what inter-ecclesiastical and ecumenical dialogue should look like.

Historia
Long renowned as one of the smartest writers on the loose, David Foster Wallace reveals himself in Consider the Lobster to be also one of the funniest. In this program, he ranges far and farther in his search for the original, the curious, or the merely mystifying. He discovers the World's Largest Lobster Cooker at the Maine Lobster Festival and confronts the inevitable question just beyond the butter-or-cocktail-sauce quandary.

Great writing. Bad argument.
Revisado: 04-11-15
DFW's use of the English language is beautiful. The ethical discussion at the end of this essay is not. It breezes over various schools of thought without doing any of them much credit. At the conclusion, he says he's confused and admonishes the reader to consider the lobster before boiling it to death. That's fine advice; just don't start here if you're concerned with the morality of your food choices.
