Historia
In the summer of 1915, the sudden death of a young girl brings grief and notoriety to Charleston Farmhouse on the Sussex Downs. Years later, Josephine Tey returns to the same house - now much changed - and remembers the two women with whom she once lodged as a young teacher during the Great War. As past and present collide, with murders decades apart, Josephine is forced to face the possibility that the scandal which threatened to destroy those women's lives hid a much darker secret.

Most depressing book of the series
Revisado: 09-25-23
Very depressing. I wish I hadn’t listened. Some stories are better left in the non-fiction category. Then, the reader knows what they’re getting into, when they buy a book

One of Upson’s very BEST!
Revisado: 09-24-23
So far in the series, this is one of the very best. With two story lines to follow, she keeps the action moving. Such realism in the reaction of some of the victims, make it seem a bit too life-like

One of my favorite books of series!
Revisado: 02-23-23
I have fallen in love with series. I didn’t set out to but I’ve learned more about British custom & history than if I took a year of college credits on the subjects. The best part though is that story lines are so thrilling, mystery filled, humorous & even bits of love stories, all perfectly intertwined to make it a series you’ll listen to every couple of years, or more often. Definitely worth the credits !!

Historia
As a detective lieutenant with the LAPD, Peter Decker witnessed enough ugliness and chaos for a lifetime. Now, he and his devoted wife, Rina Lazarus, are ready to enjoy the quiet beauty of upstate New York, where they can be closer to their four adult children and their foster son. But working for the Greenbury Police department isn't as fulfilling as Decker hoped. While Rina has adapted beautifully to their new surroundings, Decker is underwhelmed and frustrated by his new partner, Tyler McAdams, a former Harvard student and young buck with a bad 'tude.

One of the very best in series! Change in narrator was a shock and it took the first 10-15 chapters to accept his voice style.
Revisado: 10-11-22
This book had one of the very best storylines of any in the series. Love the new character of Tyler and Rina’s Involvement in the case, as a story unfolded. The action was packed and I even missed lunch and dinner to finish(I would’ve had to prepare it) !! THAT’S saying a lot, for me.

This series could’ve been so much better if the narrator could’ve been Cajun or or at least been able to mimic the beautiful Cajun dialect

Revisado: 07-17-22
This is one of my least favorite Bony stories. the characters aren’t filled out like they are in many of the other books in the series. The storyline in this book is not as gripping or exciting as many of his others are. Look forward to reading the next one though, most are excellent

Revisado: 05-06-22
Best Bess Crawford mysteries so far!
It’s also a great way to learn some of the dark history and struggles of Ireland. I don’t want to give anything away, but, I certainly hope there’s a next book in this series. Although the entirety of this book’s story line was wrapped expertly, there’s One point of interest, from the overall series, that’s left us on a real cliffhanger !!
