The first letter arrived the day my husband was buried. It was postmarked from the state penitentiary, and contained a single sentence: I’ll wait forever if I have to. It was signed by Dante, a man I didn’t know.

Predictable
Revisado: 05-24-23
I wish I hadn’t gotten this one. For me it was a slog to get through. I’m all for predictable tropes. But this…WAY to predictable for my tastes. It was more emotionally driven than anything else.
Narration-Troy Duran 👌🏻🔥🔥🔥💯
He would be the only reason I’d listen. But I won’t do it again lol!

Hard start-morphs into an ok time kill read
Revisado: 11-18-17
It was a difficult story for me to slip into. Mainly because it felt slow, dark, & depressing. The narrator is excellent at giving you that desolate vibe. I ended up putting it down & reading another book. You know how it is. Once I started it again it held my attention. It had some interesting twists (the whole Captain America bit had me in stitches-if you like dark humor then keep going just for that). It wasn’t omg omg must read but fell more into the good book to read whilst looking for the book you really want to read. My husband (a biography and non fiction reader) actually found kept sucking for updates as he found the plot very deep and thought provoking. Hmm-Oh! Narration was good—-> sorry almost forgot that most important detail!

Desparate and Bleak
Revisado: 04-03-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I'm not certain anything could as it was the story itself that wasn't really for me. If I take my personal likes and dislikes out of the equation then I'd say the story was ok and written fairly well....the author definitely pulls the correct emotions from you.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Blood Rule: Dirty Blood Book 4 by Heather Hildenbrand.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Eh, ish ish. Not the worst narration I've ever heard. There were times it felt discordant and times where the monotone slow pace matched the bleak feeling of the book. The accent was pretty interesting'ish. The narrator did rush through certain characters speech but I actually felt it matched them...Just be prepared to really listen to the words to understand.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Call?
I would cut the repetitive descriptions. Honestly, I only need to hear why they call her The Turkey once.
Any additional comments?
This book wasn't for me even though there are many books that have the same desolate, empty, bleak feel to them as The Call that I absolutely loved. I believe it is the darker books based on Fae that I don't enjoy. So I'd say if you love all Fae books and are forgiving a bit in the narration then give it a go.

Oh the Narration makes it all good
Revisado: 02-08-17
What did you love best about The Flame and the Arrow?
The narration and world building
What other book might you compare The Flame and the Arrow to and why?
"Under Different Stars" (Kricket Series by Amy Bartol)--Probably because of there being similar prophecy scenarios, a ruthless bad boy, everyone wants something from Kricket and no one seems apt to maybe clue her in to ANY sort of truth...kinda like Annika.
"Throne of Glass"--Basically because of the large character base, Talvi and Celaena are similar'ish, and Finn annoys me like Chaol.
What does Nick Cracknell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
EVERYTHING...everything!!!!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was a fan of the entire Troll scenario. It wasn't "moving" emotionally per se, but I loved the dynamics.

Historia
Talvi Marinossian has slain maenads and fought off vampire attacks, but nothing has prepared him for getting involved with one of these forbidden "modern girls". When he finally tracks down Annika it's obvious that she's changed since her recent adventure in his homeland. It's also clear that she's not ready to embrace the next chapter in her life. He tries to persuade her to open up to him, but she finds it difficult since he won't even explain how he earns a living.

Makes you want to punch them but....
Revisado: 02-08-17
What did you love best about The Silver Thread?
Hands down, the narration. It made all the moments I wanted to pull my hair and punch the characters all worth while
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Silver Thread?
ANYTHING involving Stella (honestly, that kid rocks!)...Other than that it would have to be the scene where Annika asks Talvi to play the electric guitar during band practice and they finish the elusive song.
What does Nick Cracknell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is amazing. I'm currently reading the 3rd book which has no narration at the moment and I miss Nick. There are so many characters in this book and he is able to give them all life & seems to even bring their personalities out. He uses the same voice and accent for Talvi and Finn but somehow they are different enough that you can tell the brothers apart. I find myself attempting to use the same voices in my head while reading book 3...my head is not nearly as good at playing Nick as Nick is at playing the gazillion different characters. Also, I have no idea who Stella is or whose idea it was to add her but cheers for that (also thanks for adding in Annika singing!)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
As before, definitely the part where Talvi joins band practice and they finish the song. I was also very fond of the "James blows up and goes nuclear" scene after the sugar and fire incident which leads to said nuclear blow up and ultimately fun times with pixie dust.
Any additional comments?
Worth it if only for the narration!

Don't Listen
Revisado: 05-13-16
Would you try another book from Amy Bartelloni and/or Joette Marie?
I might try another book by Bartelloni. I would NOT try another book narrated by Joette Marie.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joette Marie?
Any of the narrators that have a voice sounding young like Marie would have been fine as long as the narrator has a full understanding of cadence and can correctly pronounce words. I almost had to stop because I was going crazy with her pronunciation of Andromeda and Malachi...I mean...Mah-Lah-kee...just, no.

Narrator ok not wonderful
Revisado: 05-13-16
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Sorrel Brigman is by far NOT the worst narrator I've ever heard, however if you are peevish about narration i would suggest listening to the sample. If not that then I recommend reading what other listeners have said about it. The cadence was a bit off but not the worst ever...some words weren't pronounced correctly...again not worst but at least you know.
Any additional comments?
I actually liked the story.

Historia
When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien.

Good Read Bad Listen
Revisado: 02-27-15
Would you try another book from Jennifer L. Armentrout and/or Justine Eyre?
I would try another book from this author...But so help me, if they all have the same narrator I might gouge my eardrums out through my eye sockets. I can hardly handle the narration.
What other book might you compare Obsidian to and why?
It has some of the feel you get with Unearthly and Alienated but the most obvious straight up comparison would be Twilight.
How could the performance have been better?
By choosing a narrator that sounds like the characters. Not so whiney, bar room seductive'ish. It sort of ruins the story when you can't stop picturing the person performing. I like to be able to have that "movie in my head" where I can imagine the characters with each nuance in the performance. Virtually impossible.
Could you see Obsidian being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes. To be honest I kept picturing Ian Somerhalder as Daemon. I could be biased due to how well he plays the I love you I hate you I'll kill you all rolled into one type roles.
