Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I love a story where nothing really happens but it is engrossing because of the characters. That is this.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Happily retired in the village of Three Pines, Armand Gamache, former Chief Inspector of Homicide with the Sûreté du Québec, has found a peace he'd only imagined possible. On warm summer mornings he sits on a bench holding a small book, The Balm in Gilead, in his large hands. "There is a balm in Gilead," his neighbor Clara Morrow reads from the dust jacket, "to make the wounded whole." While Gamache doesn't talk about his wounds and his balm, Clara tells him about hers. Peter, her artist husband, has failed to come home. Failed to show up as promised on the first anniversary of their separation. She wants Gamache's help to find him. Having finally found sanctuary, Gamache feels a near revulsion at the thought of leaving Three Pines. "There’s power enough in Heaven," he finishes the quote as he contemplates the quiet village, "to cure a sin-sick soul." And then he gets up. And joins her.

I have only recently discovered this Louis Penny series and downloaded book after book without pause. The stories and characters with the perfect narration has been a real treat. I wish, however, I had stopped at the last book. The series definitely feels like it should be done after “How the light gets in” as so much is resolved.
I had concerns before starting this book after having read the reviews but decided my love for inspector Gamache was so great I thought it would be ok. It was not. The mechanism of the crime is so unrealistic and the ending pinnacle of action is so contrived it makes me question the motives and effort behind this book. The whole thing is sloppy and predictable and disappointing. It is such a sad ending for me from a nearly flawless series. I have lost faith and won’t try again.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Historia
He's the seventh son of a seventh son. He's the only one who can stop the greatest evil. Tom Ward, the Spook's last apprentice, has everything he needs to vanquish the Fiend, once and for all: the three blades recovered from the dark, the gifts from his witch mother, and the skills he's learned from Master Gregory. And Alice, the one he loves most, is willing to sacrifice herself to fulfill the spell. Or is she? Racing against time, all of Tom's old allies - and old enemies - return. They will clash in a final battle more epic than any he has fought before.

Such a disappointing end to a fabulous series
Revisado: 02-23-16
My family and I have loved this series. Unfortunately this final book was a complete disappointment. The characters seemed to suddenly lack depth and the plot was tired. The worst was the performance however. Christopher Even Welsh clearly made this series. He could transport you - embodying each character perfectly. Such a tragedy this fine actor is gone. Me Cendese lacks the range of accents or vocal expression to pull off these characters.

Historia
After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

Not great
Revisado: 12-29-11
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The story was very hard to follow. The accent and recording quality made it harder still. I am very disappointed I downloaded book 1 and 2 because we won't finish book 1 and there is no chance my kids will want to listen to book 2.
