what a shameful perversion of a traumatic event
Revisado: 01-27-23
I struggled from the start to read this book, at first I thought it was just me but as I switched from paperback to audio and began experiencing the chaotic and disorganized 3rd party writing style and encountering the character flaws the author has forced upon these innocent fictional characters, I really began to loathe a story that could have been profound and beautiful. trust me, there is beauty spilled into this book, which may be why it is so popular, but the author does a horrible job writing characters that I could connect with. this is another book that someone has wedged unnecessary LBGTQ+ rep into at the most disrespectful place. that alone made mw want to throw the book across the room. and then there are professionals behaving professionally, and what does the author have against first class passengers? Even Edward's father was unlikeable. I found it particularly distasteful that the only likeable character in first class was the character most like the author herself.

Historia
This 1872 sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland finds Carroll's inquisitive heroine in a fantastic land where everything is reversed. Whereas the first book has the deck of cards as a theme, this book is loosely based on a game of chess, played on a giant chessboard with fields for squares. Alice encounters talking flowers, madcap kings and queens, and strange mythological characters when she becomes a pawn in a bizarre chess game.

crazy story, odd voice overs
Revisado: 01-16-23
i read parts of this book in High School. decided to listen to this book in preparation of reading sara ella's new book "The Wonderland Trials" some of the voices used to portray characters were out of character I thought. but overall, the narrator did well with the script.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Historia
A young Native American, Abel has come home from war to find himself caught between two worlds. The first is the world of his father’s, wedding him to the rhythm of the seasons, the harsh beauty of the land, and the ancient rites and traditions of his people. But the other world - modern, industrial America - pulls at Abel, demanding his loyalty, trying to claim his soul, and goading him into a destructive, compulsive cycle of depravity and disgust.

hard to connect with the character
Revisado: 11-19-22
struggled to finish. the storyline was flat. loved the descriptions of nature. did not love the flat descriptions of the murder and sex. the story tends to get lost among the descriptive text of mundane things.

Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible? That's because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past - including William Tyndale's New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611. But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years.

Excellent narration, nonexistent indexing
Revisado: 09-12-20
I took a long roadtrip alone just to listen to the complete Bible. The narration was excellent, even through the eye-rolling geneologies, redundant scriptures, and detailed old laws.
However, I WISH audible or crossway would properly index the audio format to display the current book and (scripture) chapter that is being read for the title of the sequential indexed chapters. so many times i would hear a passage that I wanted to reference later, but couldnt even tell what book I was listening to at the moment, let alone the chapter. trying to look up the verse later was cumbersome. Also, although I was listening front to back, anyone looking to pick and choose the books they wish to listen to will find navingating very difficult without referencing some hard copy index.

Historia
G. Willow Wilson’s debut novel Alif the Unseen was an NPR and Washington Post Best Book of the Year, and it established her as a vital American Muslim literary voice. Now she delivers The Bird King, a stunning new novel that tells the story of Fatima, a concubine in the royal court of Granada, the last emirate of Muslim Spain, and her dearest friend Hassan, the palace mapmaker. Hassan has a secret - he can draw maps of places he’s never seen and bend the shape of reality.

Amazing, fresh story
Revisado: 01-31-20
i had a very difficult time getting through this audible. i had to keep rewinding and relistening when i realized i had missed critical parts. the narrator is horrible. she pauses at unnatural places, mispronounces words as though she is not fluent in english, and her exaggerated voices for each character and interjected attitudes is off-putting. i really wanted to just stop listening and pick up the book and read it to myself. its a shame, because the author did an amazing job writing an adventure story with many twists and turns, challenges, failures, and true human qualities. Great new young adult story

Fast action. Interesting transitions
Revisado: 12-27-19
As fascinating as a train wreck in slow motion. Creative transitions from one catastrophe to the next. Jo and the Sheriff's voices seem the same in some areas. I would have liked a bit of history about the amulet, maybe a story about its creation, not just its affects. Also, the ending was somewhat predictable. an extra chapter that describes its final disposition (beyond its last affect in this story) would have wrapped up the whole story nicely.

Not sure if performance includes sound quality....
Revisado: 11-12-19
The narrator's performance deserves 5 stars, but the sound quality of this recording is very poor. lots of skips and drops and clicks and warbles to distraction.
I really enjoyed the story, a good mix of children's fables and adult self help.... it had me wishing that we had a Native American storyteller to present some of the topics of this book at the Nisswa MN Turtle Races....
