Is an argument-free marriage possible? Fawn Weaver’s answer is yes, absolutely, even when one or both partners are strong willed, independent, and opinionated. (She admits to being all three.) In this groundbreaking book, the best-selling author and award-winning marriage blogger asks listeners to invest twenty-eight days in learning how to live together without bickering, blame, angry outbursts, or silent treatments.

Historia
Love & Whiskey is the true story of Jack Daniel, Nearest Green, the man, and Uncle Nearest, the whiskey company Fawn Weaver founded to honor and amplify Green's legacy. But it’s not the whole story. A bonus chapter in the audiobook edition centers on Weaver's commitment to right the wrongs of history by cementing one man’s legacy for generations to come. It represents a living promise to give a family back the dream that was denied them in a place and time where dreams were not permitted for all.

Loved It!
Revisado: 01-28-25
I didn't think I'd like it. I bought it because I've been impressed by what I'd seen of Fawn Weaver in social media, and I had hoped this was an autobiography. At first, I was disappointed that she planned to weave in a parallel story, but then I realized that their story had to be told in order to understand her story.
I hope she writes a more personal update a few years fron now. I appreciate her effort to keep the Nearest Green story alive, and I hope to learn more of hers.

What would it be like to sit down for an impassioned, entertaining conversation with Hillary Clinton? In Something Lost, Something Gained, Hillary offers her candid views on life and love, politics, liberty, democracy, the threats we face, and the future within our reach. She describes the strength she draws from her deepest friendships, her Methodist faith, and the nearly fifty years she’s been married to President Bill Clinton—all with the wisdom that comes from looking back on a full life with fresh eyes.

Evoked both inspiration & depression
Revisado: 01-03-25
Hillary has a unique perspective on life that makes her story compelling. This book is different than her first one. It was less focused on her political journey & more about her relationships & her post-retirement work. This was interesting & I was inspired by her continued work when she earned the right to put her feet up & relax.
The part that was depressing was her prediction about our future if Trump won the upcoming election. I'm writing this after Trump did in fact wrest the 2024 election from Kamla Harris. I do hope that her predictions are wildly exaggerated... I really hope.

Revisado: 11-14-24
I was actually a little sad when it ended. I was so immersed in her story & captivated by her soothing narration that I wanted to hear more. I highly recommend this to every young girl, every person of color, every marginalized individual, every woman. It will inspire and motivate you to just be better.

Historia
On February 17, 2022, Brittney Griner arrived in Moscow ready to spend the WNBA offseason playing for the Russian women’s basketball team where she had been the centerpiece of previous championship seasons. Instead, a security checkpoint became her gateway to hell when she was arrested for mistakenly carrying under one gram of medically prescribed hash oil. Brittney’s world was violently upended in a crisis she has never spoken in detail about publicly—until now.

Glad she shared her story
Revisado: 10-07-24
I liked this book and the fact that she felt inclined to share her journey. For me, she went from being another irresponsible junky who got caught doing something dumb, to a very relatable human being when endured unwarranted injustice. It was also eye-opening to understand the amount of hate & hostility that exists in the world, and how we should never take our freedom for granted. I sincerely hope she finds enduring happiness

Historia
Angela Davis has been a political activist at the cutting edge of the Black Liberation, feminist, queer, and prison-abolitionist movements for more than 50 years. Angela Davis: An Autobiography, first published and edited by Toni Morrison in 1974, is a powerful and commanding account of her early years in these struggles. Read by Angela Davis herself, this autobiography, told with warmth, brilliance, humor, and conviction, is a classic account of a life in struggle, with echoes in our own time.

Glad she narrated
Revisado: 08-22-24
I'll admit that there were a few times throughout the book that I strongly considered abandoning it. The early chapters were unnecessarily long & winding, and I only stuck it out because she was narrating and I gave her grace to listen to what she wanted to leave as her legacy. The last 3rd of the book was especially riveting.
In the end, I'm glad I stuck it out. I have always heard the name Angela Davis, but I didn't know much about her life & contribution to the anti-racist struggle. She deserves the accolades she has received and her story deserves to be told.

Her side of the story
Revisado: 05-17-24
I read this book because I wanted to hear her side of the story about the sorted affair she had with her married boss. I had read Sheila Johnson's book, so I wanted to give Debra the benefit of the doubt.
Her book was good. I appreciated hearing how she climbed the corporate ladder. it's unfortunate that all her accomplishments were overshadowed by a dismally bad personal choice. Anyways, I'm glad she had the courage to tell her story. I found it insightful & instructive.

Historia
Filled with sharply drawn, emotionally powerful senses, Walk Through Fire traces the hardships Sheila faced in her marriage and her professional life. Despite her skills as a violinist and music teacher, as well as her obvious entrepreneurial talent, she had to fight to overcome self-doubt and fears of failure. Sheila vividly details her struggles, including battling institutional racism, losing a child, suffering emotional abuse in her thirty-three-year marriage, and plunging into a deep depression with her divorce. And yet, out of that pain came renewed purpose and meaning.

Revisado: 08-04-23
In this crazy real estate market, this podcast is a god-send. Raquel has a knack for finding great guests who are whizes at simplifying the complicated. Mary did a great job of explaining the current status of insurance in South Florida. I'm definitely giving her a call today.
