Historia
Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

This book is not like his others…
Revisado: 07-24-22
As a Riley Sager fan girl I had high hopes for this book! I even attended a Q&A with Riley about this book before reading it so I the excitement and anticipation was higher than normal for his books. I was warned by him as well as others book reviews that this book was different than his others and that was a correct description. While i loved the setting of the book and the descriptions of the lake and characters… I could not get into them especially from the narrators voice. I always immerse myself into the place of the female protagonists in his stories but I absolutely couldn’t with the very aged woman’s voice for this audible version. The voice did not match the 37 year old she was meant to portray. Also the twist wasn’t all that exciting and I waited for something more at the very end to really give me that gotcha moment as his previous novels have. Not my favorite of Riley’s Work but I am glad I read it and will still be happy to read what he comes up with next!

Historia
It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Y2K is expected to end in chaos: planes falling from the sky, elevators plunging to earth, world markets collapsing. A digital apocalypse. None of that happens. But at a Blockbuster Video in New Jersey, four teenagers working late at the store are attacked. Only one inexplicably survives. Police quickly identify a suspect, the boyfriend of one of the victims, who flees and is never seen again.

This book had both nostalgia & true crime! I loved thinking back to the late nineties and early 2000’s to a time before cell phones and social media. Made it harder to crack these cases when teens weren’t posting their every move on the internet. The narrator’s were good… the one sounds like the teacher from the 90’s show Daria, which only added to the nostalgia. Overall good book and it kept me engaged and thinking I knew what was happening when really I had no clue.
