Story is good, narrator brings it together perfectly in this continuation of the Harmony series. It is always good to read Ms. Castle's books - you can count on a solid plot, characters you care about and inclusion in her world.

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

My first DC Smith book! The best.
Revisado: 11-24-24
By the end of the book, I was praying there were a lot more of these. And there are! What a relief to find well a written book with intensity tempered by humor and just enough procedure. DC is multifaceted. The book is poignant. Loved it.

Historia
New York Times bestselling author Christina Dodd first introduced Gabriel Prescott in her beloved Lost Hearts series. She continued his story throughout the suspenseful Fortune Hunters series and at last, in Danger in a Red Dress, readers rejoiced as he at last discovered the truth about his family, and met the woman of his dreams. Now, in this original short story, Gabriel must confront the demons of his past for a young girl to have any hope of a future, and discovers that, at Christmas, blessings sometimes come in disguise.

Ties up some loose ends!
Revisado: 05-08-24
I like this author so much and I like Eric Dove as a narrator just not for this book. It needed either Amanda Ranconni or Natalie Ross.. The story ties up some loose ends and you get to hear about what's going on in the lives of others in the series Fortune Hunters - however it had none of the spirit of Trouble in High Heels or in Thigh High both of which were hilarious and worth the credit and the read.

A humorous to hilarious 5 star romp!
Revisado: 03-21-24
To say that Barbara Rosenblat makes the book is an understatement. Her narration allows Katie MacAlister's characters to be as she intended, hilariously funny, charming, sexy. I wish Rosenblat narrated all the books. Other narrators don't get MacAlister's humor and basically ruin the audio experience. I read them in book format to avoid the other narrators.

Historia
It was supposed to be a harmless kiss at a lavish debutante ball. A clandestine moment with a handsome stranger. But unlike his namesake, my Romeo isn’t driven by love. He’s fueled by revenge. To him, I’m a chess piece. Leverage. His rival’s betrothed. To me, he is a man deserving of poison. A dark prince I refuse to marry. He thinks I’ll accept my fate. Well, I plan to rewrite it. And in my story, Juliet doesn’t die. But Romeo? He perishes.

Historia
The outcry when Conan Doyle pushed Sherlock Holmes over the Reichenbach Falls and the dismay when Freeling shot Van der Valk are as nothing compared to the chaos that ensues when Lorinda Lucas tries to dispose of Miss Petunia and her siblings, Lily and Marigold. Not only does the lid blow off the fictional village of St. Waldemar Boniface, but the literary colony of Brimful Coffers is shaken to its foundations.

Don't skip this one.
Revisado: 04-14-21
Usually reading the reviews is a good idea - in this case however, it put me off buying and reading this book. I skipped onto the next one "Hellbent". After reading all the books, I went back and got this one, thinking if it was as off putting as reviewed, I would return it (thank you Audible for having this policy.) The story may not be the best of the series thus far but it's inventive and engaging and good! I couldn't put it down and listened to the whole thing in two days. It filled in information about Evan's life that you need/want to know the details of and which I had missed. The story is intense and yes, X gets himself into a real jam - but he isn't superman, he is a man who because of his training and ability to think on his feet, just seems omnipotent a lot of the time. The antagonist is a Blofeld type of character and I wouldn't have missed it. Parts of it are more than stellar. Scott Brick did his usual, amazing and wonderful job. Very much worth the credit.

It's kind of a sneeze.
Revisado: 02-04-21
Mary Jane Wells was the best part of the book. This is a case of the narrator improving a so-so book. I read these books out of order and am glad I did because the next in the series is better. Worth listening to. This one runs along established lines and has nothing original to recommend it.
