Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

What a ride!

I really really loved this story. It touched my heart and made me cry. Even though Whoopi is a huge star there are many very relatable moments. I am so glad Whoopi wrote this book. I'm 68 and have been following her work for decades. This book is about her life.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Historia
In this spirited account, Billie Jean King details her life's journey to find her true self. She recounts her groundbreaking tennis career - six years as the top-ranked woman in the world, 20 Wimbledon championships, 39 grand-slam titles, and her watershed defeat of Bobby Riggs in the famous "Battle of the Sexes". She poignantly recalls the cultural backdrop of those years and the profound impact on her worldview from the women's movement, the assassinations and anti-war protests of the 1960s, the civil rights movement, and, eventually, the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

I loved this book
Revisado: 07-30-22
Real life stories woven into a beautiful honest mosaic of Billie Jean. She has been and still is a role model to me. I've been watching her for over fifty years and saw a lot of it as it happened. Her reading is raw and shows the emotions she felt at the time. Her voice breaks as she recounts the death of a friend. Her struggle to overcome and learn to deal with personal obstacles, life and health. Overall Billie Jean shows us again why we continue to hold her with such love and respect.
