If you liked the last one you'll like this one
Revisado: 08-03-12
What did you love best about The Dog Who Came in from the Cold?
Picked up right where the other book left off without too much repetition about what happened in the last adventure.
What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His fabulous accent!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, its easy light listening that I enjoy but don't feel compelled to stay up all night to read.
Any additional comments?
If you like the different Alexander McCall Smith series you will like this one too. I keep expecting them to run into Bertie.

In London’s Pimlico neighborhood lies a tenement described in architectural guides as “a building of no interest whatsoever.” But the residents of Corduroy Mansions—including a literary agent, a wine merchant, a thoroughly unpleasant member of Parliament, and a vegetarian dog—are a rather fascinating lot.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?
Loved it!
Any additional comments?
Okay, I am a sucker for Scottland, humerous suspense and cute little dogs. I am prewired to love this book. This remineded me quite a bit of McCalls other series at 44 Scottland with Bertie and the like - which I also enjoyed. Visual descriptions like his other stories, good character development of quirky people you may know plus an adorable little dog...what's not to like? Perfect stories for a long commute.

Odd but interestingly unique

Okay, so I'd have to say I wasn't crazy about this book when I first listened to it, but strangely it has stuck with me. The premiss of the story is unique - its not everyday that you read about a nursery rhyme that kills people. The characters are not your usual bunch of folks. It's not a typical story, its not very predictable, and it has some pretty weird visuals. I probably wouldn't listen to it again. However that being said I think it would be a fun book for book club.

Revisado: 08-03-12
What did you love best about The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao?
Loved the story, loved the characters, loved the dialogue, loved the history, loved the descriptions. This was a fabulous book. I was totally enthralled begining to end.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I drove around the block a couple of times just to get a little more listening in.
Any additional comments?
This is a not to be missed listen. Fabulous descriptions and character development. The historical, political aspect was interesting and completely weaved into the story. I don't speak Spanish but I got a good feel for what was being said within the context of the phrase. A wonderfully visual multigenerational story.

Typical romance with some porn thrown in
Revisado: 08-03-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better dialogue, a more creative story, characters that I liked
What was most disappointing about E. L. James’s story?
I didn't like the characters, they were predictable and boring. The same phrases were used over and over to the point that I cringed pretty much when Anna described anything.
Would you be willing to try another one of Becca Battoe’s performances?
Sure, she probably cringed too when she had to read the same phrases over and over again
What character would you cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?
Not a big fan of either of the main characters.
Any additional comments?
It reminded me of a Harliquin Romance with some porn thrown in. Common girl meets handsome, wealthy stranger, finds out he has some pretty big issues and wants to fix him and will go to any length and comprimise herself in any way to change him.

Difficult to hear
Revisado: 08-03-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, if they were a fan of old radio.
How could the performance have been better?
It needed some type of audio enhancement. It was often virtually impossible to understand the actors.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes
Any additional comments?
It is a fun and reminisent listen. The sound effects set the mood and I even enjoyed the crackle due to the age of the recording. If you are a fan of early radio stories you will love these familiar stories.
