over the top voice acting and thin layer of cliche

the narrator and the writing made this book seem like a fantasy spoof. I had to turn it off.

What would have made Beyond the Gate better?
The author has no idea how to communicate the atmosphere, he sounds jilted, as though Captain Kirk were narrating the solemn history of a star, really horrid reading. I love the book, but not the audio version, very very disappointed.
