Thoroughly Researched

Slow and breathy narration. Once you work through that it’s entertaining and well researched. Would recommend

She’s no Marry Roach
Revisado: 12-22-24
Glad it was free. Narration is not for me. At times it was so nasally and over the top that it took away from the content. Also didn’t appreciate the author’s judgmental tone, condescension, and, at times, belittling attitude. I understand the need for “dark humor” in this line of work but it shouldn’t be at the expense of anyone…especially a corpse.

Historia
Dame Sue Black is an internationally renowned forensic anthropologist and human anatomist. She has lived her life eye to eye with the Grim Reaper, and she writes vividly about it in this book, which is part primer on the basics of identifying human remains, part frank memoir of a woman whose first paying job as a schoolgirl was to apprentice in a butcher shop, and part no-nonsense but deeply humane introduction to the reality of death in our lives. It is a treat for CSI junkies, murder mystery and thriller fans, and anyone seeking a clear-eyed guide to a subject that touches us all.

I wanted a science book about forensics. I got a mostly-memoir instead.

AI voice is tinny and monotonously upbeat… like a cheerleader, reading her term-paper to the class.

Historia
Growing up in one of the meanest counties in the Jim Crow South, Carter is the only American president who essentially lived in three centuries: his early life on the farm in the 1920s without electricity or running water might as well have been in the nineteenth; his presidency put him at the center of major events in the twentieth; and his efforts on conflict resolution and global health set him on the cutting edge of the challenges of the 21st.

Carter Fan Club
Revisado: 10-30-20
Not bad but highly partisan look at Carter that borders on worship/sycophancy. Author points out some of Carter’s flaws but includes a footnote where Trump or the Republicans did the same thing but much worse. Narrator is not bad. He has a rich voice but he is really off on the sections where drama or excitement are needed...it seems forced.
