Historia
The nightmares have returned. Something, or someone, wants to drag Julia Davidson back into a dreadful conflict she assumed was a distant memory. Was this, like before, the echo of another person's dream? Is she responsible to rescue faces she doesn't recognize but can't forget? Do the murky images suggest she has a part to play in whatever ominous events lie ahead?

Prophetic
Revisado: 07-21-23
This trilogy was written ten years ago.
At the time, it was set at 30 years into the future — now 20 years into the future. You can already see many of these trends coming to pass. This trilogy open my eyes to some coming trends. I recommend it highly.

Historia
The Earth is coming to the boiling point as the climate disaster of the meteor strike becomes more and more clear, but the political situation is already overheated. Riots and sabotage plague the space program. The IAC's goal of getting as many people as possible off Earth before it becomes uninhabitable is being threatened.

Hampered by a Plot Hole and Length
Revisado: 05-29-21
I read the first book in the "Lady Astronaut" series, which I liked a lot. Some reviewers said that the second book didn't add much to the plotline. So, I decided to go straight to the third book in the series.
I liked the characters and the over-arching plot. The story moved slower than I would have liked, and I think I would have preferred the Reader's Digest Condensed Book version. A little less could have been more.
The author, Mary Robinette Kowal, was also the narrator, and her narration was incredible! I suspect that hearing her read it may have made the book itself better than it was.
When it comes to the science, Kowal has a chapter after the epilogue where she goes into what she and her team did for accuracy. That part is truly remarkable. I enjoyed that chapter, and I think the attention to this detail strengthened the book.
The least accurate part of the story, and to me, the glaring "plot hole" was her choice to make the terrorists motivated by their supposedly Christian faith. She does paint these terrorists as a fringe group, and several of her main characters are people of faith who are not portrayed unrealistically. However, her choice of causing the terrorists to be motivated by out-of-context Old Testament passages indicates that neither Kowal nor anyone on her team really understands what motivates people when it comes to Christian faith — even fringe groups. I have a doctorate and experience in a related field, so this is not an uninformed opinion.
For the book as a whole, this "plot hole" is secondary — it is like making a glaring mistake in the science. However, I am very concerned about our current popular culture's tendency to marginalize Christians and Jews by painting them in negative ways. I'm afraid that "The Restless Moon" unintentionally furthers that agenda a bit.

Historia
Mary Robinette Kowal continues the grand sweep of alternate history begun in The Calculating Stars. The Fated Sky looks forward to 1961, when mankind is well established on the moon and looking forward to its next step: journeying to, and eventually colonizing, Mars. Of course the noted Lady Astronaut Elma York would like to go, but there’s a lot riding on whoever the International Aerospace Coalition decides to send on this historic - but potentially very dangerous - mission. Could Elma really leave behind her husband and the chance to start a family to spend several years traveling to Mars?

Good Book - Incredible Narration
Revisado: 03-04-19
I like this book and series. However, the narrator is incredible. She might be my favorite one of all the audiobooks I’ve listened to.

Historia
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

Historia
As the true horrors of the Third Reich began to be exposed immediately after World War II, the Nazi war criminals who committed genocide went on the run. A few were soon caught, including the notorious SS leader Heinrich Himmler. Others, however, evaded capture through a sophisticated Nazi organization designed to hide them. Among them were Josef Mengele, the “Angel of Death” who performed hideous medical experiments at Auschwitz; Martin Bormann, Hitler’s brutal personal secretary; Klaus Barbie, the cruel "Butcher of Lyon"; and perhaps the most awful Nazi of all: Adolf Eichmann.

Historia
The Caribbean crises of the Cold War are revealed as never before in this riveting story of clashing ideologies, the rise of the politics of fear, the machinations of superpowers, and the daring of the brazen mavericks who took them on. The superpowers thought they could use Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic as puppets, but what neither bargained on was that their puppets would come to life.

Well-Done But Hard to Take
Revisado: 03-11-16
It took me a while to get through this book. It is a sorry story of American involvement in the Caribbean. Yet, it is well done, and it appears to be accurate. I wish our current politicians understood this.

Historia
The solar system most of us grew up with included nine planets, with Mercury closest to the sun and Pluto at the outer edge. Then, in 2005, astronomer Mike Brown made the discovery of a lifetime: a tenth planet, Eris, slightly bigger than Pluto. But instead of its resulting in one more planet being added to our solar system, Brown’s find ignited a firestorm of controversy that riled the usually sedate world of astronomy and launched him into the public eye.

More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.
