Historia
In Hunt, Gather, Parent, Doucleff sets out with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world’s most venerable communities: Maya families in Mexico, Inuit families above the Arctic Circle, and Hadzabe families in Tanzania. She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

Most insightful and interesting parenting book I’ve read!
Revisado: 12-31-24
I say this as a Child Centered Play Therapist that this is one of the best books I’ve found that I feel totally comfortable recommending to parents I’m working with. While I recognize that not all of it can be seamlessly implemented here, it has really given me so many interesting things to think about in my own parenting and how we raise kids in our society.

This wasn’t it
Revisado: 05-29-24
I’m entering the preteen parenting years and also a pediatric mental health professional. I wanted to brush up on this area and felt a little underwhelmed. I kept hoping the next chapter would be more useful and it never really got there for me. I’m not sure what else I was looking for but this wasn’t it.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

What a charming Prince
Revisado: 03-28-24
I know Harry is controversial and I mostly read it because I wanted to try to see him from a different perspective than he has been portrayed by media. I wanted to see if there was some truth to the way he’s talked about. In “reading” the book I can most definitely see this from both sides. I do think he is meant to bring a much needed healing to the family and I do believe he was treated unfairly. I was mostly shocked by the way it seems Meghan truly faced vulgar racism. In the US, I didn’t really hear the most awful things that were sad. I think she’s self-important and calculated in a manipulative way, but that’s a different review. Harry is extremely relatable despite being royal and I wish him well.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Fun family bonding
Revisado: 06-26-23
I was looking for something that both my 9yo son and I could enjoy during a day of cleaning and running errands. This is a bit outside his typical interests but we were both pretty hooked within the first chapter. Zero is a lovable character and the story was well written and performed in this format! Can’t wait for the sequel!

This was helpful
Revisado: 12-24-22
I, unfortunately, sought out this book in the days after finding out my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Realizing I didn’t really know anything meaningful about breast cancer or treatment I hoped to find anything that could inform and encourage me. This book provided a little of both. This gave me a very good framework of the terms that would be used and what to generally expect even though the writer’s cancer was a very different stage than my friend’s. The benefit to this book over reading web links for information is that it was tied together with a human experience and story. If you have unfortunate position to be seeking information, I feel that this is a good, approachable, hopeful place to start.

A little dense for an audiobook
Revisado: 05-11-22
I found the material a little hard to digest in audio format but the info is definitely there if you can process it. I think I had a good fundamental understanding of health and nutrition going into this read so I got it, but it is a little boring. The narrator did a good job getting though the material in a less boring way. Definitely gave me things to think about as I approach my own health and future dietary supplementation.
