Historia
Lucie Blackman - tall, blond, 21 years old - stepped out into the vastness of Tokyo in the summer of 2000 and disappeared. The following winter, her dismembered remains were found buried in a seaside cave. The seven months in between had seen a massive search for the missing girl involving Japanese policemen, British private detectives, and Lucie’s desperate but bitterly divided parents. Had Lucie been abducted by a religious cult or snatched by human traffickers? Who was the mysterious man she had gone to meet? And what did her work as a hostess in the notorious Roppongi district of Tokyo really involve?

Strange and confusing
Revisado: 05-04-22
I am not clear what this book is really about. In the beginning, it is telling the story of a young woman who vanished, at another point, it talks about Japanese culture, and at another point, it talks about the dark behavior of a twisted individual and trying to understand that individual. it also digresses into a strange defense of the behavior of the father of the victim, which I found very annoying and somewhat confusing. None of this relates to the title, which in my opinion says absolutely nothing about the book. I kept waiting for him to explain the title or have some revelation of how the title has meaning to the story and in the end, he waxes unpoetically about what he thinks the meaning of the title is and I am left dangling in annoyance as to an understanding. In my opinion, It is over-written and full of pontifications that blur the intention of the book, and overall it lacks focus.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Despite rambling still great investigative journal
Revisado: 04-09-21
I am not sure most would be willing to get through the rambling account of his investigative journey but there are some powerful revelations in this book. It reminds of the cliche journalism critique about burying the lead as the real great parts seemed buried under his commentary about his laborious and frustrating process investigating the story. He spends way too much time defending his process because there is no conclusive evidence but there are some pretty damning pieces that makes a compelling argument that the story we have been told about the Manson family is erroneous at best and laden with conspiratorial ovettones that begs further inquiry. It made me want more but leaves more questions than answers. At times I wished he would have gotten to the point much quicker but I am glad I persevered to the end.

Historia
Hawke's narrator is a young man in torment, disgusted with himself after the collapse of his marriage, still half hoping for a reconciliation that would allow him to forgive himself and move on as he clumsily, and sometimes hilariously, tries to manage the wreckage of his personal life with whiskey and sex. What saves him is theater: in particular, the challenge of performing the role of Hotspur in a production of Henry IV under the leadership of a brilliant director, helmed by one of the most electrifying - and narcissistic - Falstaff's of all time.

Great insight into acting Shakespeare on stage
Revisado: 02-11-21
I wanted to read this hoping to get a glimpse of what it would be like acting in Shakespeare production on Broadway. To that end the book fulfilled my expectations. Also Ethan Hawke was a joy to listen to and I image hearing him read is a different experience than reading the novel but I felt the book had real life with his reading. The story left me longing a little and the second half just felt like a bunch of people giving an anonymous actor advice which I found annoying. I wanted more understanding of the protagonist and I didn't really get that like his relationship with his father at the end felt lacking in detail and I wish I had more detail about the marriage itself, which was sparse and left me with more questions. Overall I would recommend it to anyone interested in the experience of acting on stage and the story critic feels minor to the real insight the book offers to art of acting itself.
