Historia
Of all the worlds and life they created, the gods favored their children the most. But with that favor came the fear that their Legacy would one day become too powerful and overthrow them. Devram was created. A realm hidden amongst the stars. The gods gave their Legacy the best of all the worlds, and then they left, a sworn agreement to never return and to never interfere.

this is not a good book
Revisado: 02-17-25
title says it all. i wish i kept scrolling through reviews but i got it based off a tiktok review. i love the enemy-to-lovers trope but this ain’t it. the female narrator is phenomenal and could’ve done a better job doing both characters; male narrator does not sound attractive and i suppose it matches his character because he’s insufferable. i liked the FMC from the start but as other reviews state, this book is torture. it baffles me that a writer can rewrite the same scene, same fight, same words, same outcome chapter after chapter. do people actually enjoy this? by the last few chapters, i literally want both characters to die. i’m not rooting for either of them. she becomes so petulant and keeps stating she doesn’t care anymore/she can’t feel/she’s accepted her fate and then a few minutes later is back at it. the MMC is needy, has no dignity and yeah it’s just not attractive, it’s not sexy. i’ve made it this far but i wish i could get the 14 hours or so i’ve put in back.
would not recommend!

Historia
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Loved it!
Revisado: 05-07-23
I don’t really get the negative reviews for this! I guess it depends on what expectations you have so I will word my review this way—if you’re into slow burn romances with a touch of banter and swoony male lead, plus an exciting, somewhat complex paranormal universe and a story that unravels over time, this is for you. there is some spice but it doesn’t take over the story or plot like some other books. the narrator was not my fav at first but I sped it up and she really grew on me—she has great range and delivery and really gives each character a voice of their own.
The writing is not overly complicated and there is a lot of description but that’s what makes it great for you to really immerse yourself in the universe.
I wasn’t desperate to finish in one go like it was a page turner but definitely remained engaged throughout and some scenes had me on the edge of my seat or tearing up.
mind you, i haven’t read a ton of fantasy dark romances so didn’t have high expectations but so far it fit the bill for romance, engaging story line, right amount of smut, excellent narration!
started the 2nd book in the series right after!

Suspense, thriller and lots of gore!
Revisado: 01-08-22
I came across this book as a recommendation because I am currently obsessed with the tv show “Yellowjackets” and this has a similar theme/concept.
I thought the interview style is a great approach and made the flow of the book interesting as each one followed a timeline but also delivered a different perspective.
It was a bit difficult though to separate who all the characters were at first and I almost feel like I should now go back to relisten to the first few chapters since it all escalates very fast
I wish the ending had more of an explanation but I suppose that’s not the purpose since it’s not so black and white.
Worth the listen if you like suspense and thriller. It is very gruesome though and a bit over the top which lends to why it’s hard to believe this was plausible.

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

not the biggest fan
Revisado: 05-04-21
i’ve been reading a lot of romcom/chick lit as of lately and this one ranked pretty low on the list. i wanted to like it since it started off really well! but alas it just didn’t quite work for me. first of all, i really didn’t like the female narrator-she was a little too breathy and whiny and it just made the already mildly emotional character sound TOO whiny. her impersonations of the guy made him sound like a goob. the male narrator on the other hand sounded super sexy so it just threw me off that it was the same person as the two of them alternated (i guess that’s part of the audiobook experience). the plot and first quarter of the book had so much potential but it just kinda dragged. i wanted to return it halfway through but kept holding out hope that it might have some interesting plot twists or further development. ending was nauseating and predictable. it’s like we get it, he’s obsessed with you and everything turned out perfectly (one of the other reviews nails exactly how i felt about it). it kinda wrapped up so neatly at the end that it made all the “problems” in the relationship seem like they were fillers and not real issues. way too fairytale-like and unrelatable. not a big fan personally.

i loved this book!
Revisado: 05-04-21
this was such a light and refreshing book on a rather traumatic situation. i loved the narrator! she really grew on me as the story progressed. i’m on a hunt for more chick-lit books like this. and not overly nauseous on the romance front. the story was very relatable for 30-something working singles! highly recommended.

Historia
It is 1995, and Anvar Faris is a restless, rebellious, and sharp-tongued boy doing his best to grow up in Karachi, Pakistan. As fundamentalism takes root within the social order and the zealots next door attempt to make Islam great again, his family decides, not quite unanimously, to start life over in California. Ironically, Anvar's deeply devout mother and his model-Muslim brother adjust easily to life in America, while his fun-loving father can't find anyone he relates to. For his part, Anvar fully commits to being a bad Muslim.

Such a great page-turner!
Revisado: 04-29-21
This is the first novel i have completed on audible! it took me 4 days to finish it and i absolutely loved it. the narrators really make the story amazing. it’s my first time reading a modern story on the struggles of Muslims in America. I could relate to it quite a bit and found the cultural jokes to be so accurate and delightful. I felt like I knew the characters by the end. This is a must read!
