Historia
You might think laziness, lack of willpower, and/or low motivation are to blame for the fact that you aren't achieving your goals. But fascinating research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology has revealed another, far more likely possibility. One with the potential to transform your life in a dramatic way.

Good Content Ruined by Bad “Formatting”
Revisado: 12-07-24
The content is useful. The annoying music between sessions, especially when it drowns out Dr. Hall, is problematic. It greatly reduced my enjoyment of the book. And Nightingale jumping in with a spammy push of their website toward the end? That broke it. I gave up and stopped the book.

Historia
Drawing on years of investigation and Anne Lister’s five-million-word secret journal, Learned by Heart is the long-buried love story of Eliza Raine, an orphan heiress banished from India to England at age six, and Anne Lister, a brilliant, troublesome tomboy, who meet at the Manor School for young ladies in York in 1805 when they are both fourteen. Emotionally intense, psychologically compelling, and deeply researched, Learned by Heart is an extraordinary work of fiction by one of the world’s greatest storytellers.

Fiction, but isn’t so much of life a fiction?
Revisado: 10-21-23
I was planning to dive right into another book right after this one but I think I’ll sit with this one a little longer. The author painted the young lives of Eliza and Anne so well, I’m reluctant to let go just yet. Some aches are as beautiful as they are painful.

Historia
Anne Lister was extraordinary. Fearless, charismatic, and determined to explore her lesbian sexuality, she forged her own path in a society that had no language to define her. She was a landowner, an industrialist, and a prolific diarist whose output has secured her legacy as one of the most fascinating figures of the 19th century. Gentleman Jack: The Real Anne Lister follows Anne from her crumbling ancestral home in Yorkshire to the glittering courts of Denmark as she resolves to put past heartbreak behind her and find herself a wife.

A deeper explanation behind the true events from Gentleman Jack
Revisado: 12-26-22
A TV show often needs to condense events from a book in order to flow well in the format. I appreciate hearing more of what actually happened and how. Highly recommend.

Historia
Deep and accelerating inequality; unprecedented political polarization; vitriolic public discourse; a fraying social fabric; public and private narcissism — Americans today seem to agree on only one thing: This is the worst of times. But we’ve been here before. During the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, America was highly individualistic, starkly unequal, fiercely polarized, and deeply fragmented, just as it is today.

Worth the Price
Revisado: 12-27-20
The book is well written, although a bit dry. I’d love for it to be read by today’s “conservatives,” but before that, it should be read by today’s “progressives.”
This gives me a little hope that we’ll start a new upswing in my lifetime, but the drivers of it will be Millennials and Gen Z. My Gen X fellows don’t appear motivated to improve things in this way.
