Historia
Ambrose Bierce is a wordsmith who paints with a marvelous portrait with words. This short story with its surprise ending draws you in like a month to the flame. The story itself is entertaining, but with a surprise ending one is drawn to rethinking the story, and re-reading again. The American Civil War where brother fought brother father fought son is well represented in this story. After the Civil War Pierce became a journalist in San Francisco, and was a prolific producer of short stories.

A vivid dilemma
Revisado: 08-07-16
A short story dealing with duty, honor and family feelings during the American Civil War. The writer and the narrator keep the pathos of the dilemma that aflicts the protagonist and that leads to an amazing end

Historia
Adapted from the Arthur Conan Doyle story "Silver Blaze".... Horseracing is the sport of kings, perhaps because racehorses are very expensive animals. But when they win races, they can make a lot of money too - money for the owners, for the trainers, and for the people who put bets on them to win.Silver Blaze is a young horse, but already the winner of many races. One night he disappears from his stables, and someone kills his trainer.

One little known Sherlock's tale by A, Conan Doyle
Revisado: 12-27-11
First the technical features: perfectly audible (a remarkable intonation) but somewhat slow due to, at times, a slow speech with many pauses.
I'm not an expert on AC Doyle's works but this tale surprised me favorably (I shouldn't tell the basic lines lest the spell is broken). It is a short story, but a smart one, and so can be enjoyed with little time devoted to it, at least in the adapted version. There must be reminded a memorable line of the tale: "The strange thing is that the dog didn't bark". I heard that quoted out of the context, but one must look at/ listen to that in the context to understand its meaning!

Historia
A pilot stranded in the desert awakes one morning to see, standing before him, the most extraordinary little fellow. "Please," asks the stranger, "draw me a sheep." And the pilot realizes that when life's events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries. He pulls out pencil and paper... And thus begins this wise and enchanting fable that, in teaching the secret of what is really important in life, has changed forever the world for its readers.

An outstanding performance
Revisado: 12-19-11
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Because the story is good and very well told. It may be a tale for children, but it's not childish.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Little Prince?
The farewell of the fox: I have read it in a book and seen it in a film, but this audible version is simply remarkable, Must be listened to!
What does Humphrey Bower bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Besides being very discernible, he can transmit a feeling and a pathos as very few actors/speakers. If you've just read the book, you would never suspect the intensity of feeling enclosed in the tale. Even the film I saw wasn't so good.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried, but because the tale evocates noble feelings. I wouldn't say that the tale is a sad one, but a beautiful one so beautiful since we are not used to such tales because we see them so seldom.
Any additional comments?
There's nothing like a good tale told with heart.
