I was the biggest movie star in the world!
Revisado: 02-14-22
This book is an ode to excessive pride. The first third is maybe the most interesting, thanks to him not being born as a conceited Goldnugget. But the book looses it's charm quickly when Smith enters Hollywood. Did I mention that he became the biggest movie star in the WORLD?
In the last section, he discloses his mental and spiritual development and shares some advice, which any other 50 year old after a midlife crisis could give you.
The good thing is: He's staying real and never leaves out on the ugly parts. This book is surely the manifestation of every Will Smith fanboys wettest dreams, but there isn't much of a lesson in it if you don't read it for the star. I'm not entirely sure why there is such a hype around it. The narration and writing are excellent and go down like warm milk with honey. Smith and Manson surely combined their strengths excellently, if only they would have told the story of someone more admirable and less self centered.

Memory isn't some magical superpower
Revisado: 01-24-22
The essence of what this book will teach you is really unsexy.
You will not hear the secret trick or swallow the magical potion to become a person of good memory. Instead you will learn little brain games that must be applied to every piece of information you want to learn. And then you need to do them over and over again.
It's not sexy, but this book, better than any other, makes it clear that of you fail to do this, that is not because of physical limitations, or a because you're not the chosen one. It is because you don't want to play the brain games. Because you're to lazy.
And while I am really disappointed to her that there actually isn't a spell to turn my memory into a photocopier, I think this book has managed to teach me how to improve my memory for real.

Revisado: 10-15-21
When I started listening to this book, I was going for a short walk outside. The short walk turned into a 4 hour hike over 13 kilometres filled with tears and empathy and yearning. Then I walked back home and it didn't feel quite the same anymore.
I am still aching from this book.

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Historia
Tara Westover and her family grew up preparing for the End of Days but, according to the government, she didn’t exist. She hadn’t been registered for a birth certificate. She had no school records because she’d never set foot in a classroom, and no medical records because her father didn’t believe in hospitals. As she grew older, her father became more radical and her brother more violent. At 16, Tara knew she had to leave home. In doing so she discovered both the transformative power of education, and the price she had to pay for it.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Since I read this book I never again dared to sleep any less than 8 hours a night.
I'm not a great fan of the narrator though. He did an even better job in putting me to sleep than the lessons did.

Immortal
Revisado: 10-14-20
A book every person should read during their youth and then again in adulthood. No other written document has ever brought me closer to the meaning of war than this diary and more even: Anne also opened up parts of my own persona to me and taught me so much about life and love, despite her young age.
What an outstanding person. I like to think that with the success of her book and her immortality through it, her life wish has been fulfilled and she can smile in heaven.
