Historia
Hilarious, fascinating, and a roller coaster of dizzying, historical what-ifs, Napoleon's Hemorrhoids is a potpourri for serious historians and casual history buffs. In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. You'll discover that before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's painful hemorrhoids prevented him from mounting his horse to survey the battlefield.

They just throw the facts too fast

Such a fun listen… if you like facts and the details about them that aren’t well known
Revisado: 01-08-25
I actually enjoyed that the entire family could listen to this and find something of interest, I was able to listen to this to fall asleep then rewind and listen again to learn. I would listen again, it’s packed with the details behind many interesting facts.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

No spoilers here, but I was completely wrong when I thought I would be able to predict the ending. I bet you can’t either.

If you have survived DV
Revisado: 01-12-23
Well, I love this author. I think that if you are a parent that has kids you will probably find yourself reflected in one character of this book.
I really loved how the story begins from the POV of a cat, that was great fun.
I also think that the messaging about DV is important for all to read, and it’s almost as if the author intended to include a coded message for individuals who are being victimized in this book.

I really wanted to love it
Revisado: 12-25-22
I just couldn’t. There was something about the narration that made me annoyed and took me out of the story. I’m really picky about accents and voices though, so YMMV.
I also tried to get past my annoyance but in the end, life is too short to read/listen to anything I don’t love.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

This was great pleasure to read. It was beautifully written, and narrated. I did not know the full story of Achilles and Patroclus before now. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I love this author! Everything I’ve read by them is creepy.
Revisado: 08-07-22
I’m going to warn you that if you start reading this, it may be difficult to stop and do other things. I have really struggled with this author, because I do not have time to read these books right now and I can. not. stop. I have read two in one week during finals and am definitely moving to whatever else is available after I’m done writing this.
The real magic of the suspense from this author is the use of scenarios that could really happen, therefore are completely terrifying. They also use this really comprehensive understanding of psychology behind the main character’s motives.
One other note is that I thought they were female because of the way they write women, and that’s a massive compliment in my opinion. The women are strong and vulnerable, and are motivated by things other than romance.

Historia
Newlyweds Lina and Cain don’t make it out to their property on gorgeous Lake Tarawera as often as they’d like, so when Cain suggests they rent the house out to vacationers, Lina reluctantly agrees. While the home has been in her family for generations, they could use the extra money. And at first, Lina is amazed at how quickly guests line up, and at how much they’re willing to pay. But both Lina and Cain have been keeping secrets, secrets that won’t be put off by fresh paint or a new alarm system. And someone has been watching them.

Summer Suspense
Revisado: 08-01-22
I needed something that would hold my attention and this did the trick! I was pleased with the storyline, I usually find this type of thriller/suspense read to be extremely predictable but this was not.
It’s modern day terror, and the author manages to use scenarios that really could happen. Depending on how sensitive you are, you may want to be careful about when you read this book because it’s that creepy.
Speaking of being careful when you read it, I had an early morning appointment and couldn’t stop listening to the book last night. I would recommend starting this when it’s not going to be a problem for you to finish the entire thing.
The narrator was good, I was able to forget I was listening to someone read and fully immerse myself in the storyline which is exactly what I like to do.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Great Read!
Revisado: 10-22-21
This book is very accessible, it is something that I think any person can read and really take in some inspiration. I don’t want to give away too much, but I lost my brother to suicide, and this book brushes up against that type of situation and the absolute despair felt for the person who has decided to end their own life. This book manages to do that without leaving the reader feeling too *heavy* from the experience. For this reason, I feel this book could be an important read for someone who is experiencing that deep despair, as well as for those that love people that feel it. No book can ever take the place of a great therapist, but if you need a positive nudge in life, this may be a great place to start.
